Mechanical Forced Holidays - Honey I’m coming home!

Mechanical department is requesting 100% force level this holiday season. If you’re like me and have family flying in from the North Pole then you’ll want to sit around the fire and share stories and the joy of the season. What if you’ve been forced to work though? Do not fret for a critical is a critical is a critical (one case it’s not DO NOT FAIL A D--g & ALCOHOL TEST COUPLED WITH A CRITICAL)...as I was. If you do not show up for your forced assignment it’s a 1.13 failure to comply. So why not go home in style - with that OT pay and time to spare for making the meal! Pull out your phone in lineup to call Santa to let him know that you’ll be working and to take care of the kids. Ohhhh Noooo! 2.21 electronic device? A piss test? Paid to go home with time and a half?!?!

Merry Cristmas - Happy Holidays! Dare to be different! Operate within the lines of the policy.

Santa is here for you UP brothers and sisters

Las time I checked North Platte will force you to work your scheduled day off if there is a force and you didn't volunteer!

You get forced to work on your rest day so that someone with higher seniority doesn't have to, even though they had seniority to bid your job/days off. Great union, I'll never work 19 straight again, critical or not.

"Cry me a river"

I'm sorry 12 hours in a climate controlled building behind a screen is to much. Maybe you should find a new career.

It goes by seniority that’s why union is there for if there’s 10 of use in a shift and they have a sign up sheet they need 5 only if no one signs up then they go by seniority ur kind of drafted to work unless u have someone to work for u

In North Platte they do. I think it's more a union policy than company thing. Company just says they need x amount of people for the holiday union forces you weather u sign up or not.

Yeah I have Monday Tuesday off so it looks like 19 days straight for me. I find it interesting that they go to this extreme with a holiday absence seeing as since you technically have no position you cant use the lay off system in case of emergency...

Anonymous,

You dialed into the wrong conference call! This is a critical rule review for the holiday!

No lay offs on mechanical side. Transportation side only and managers and foremen are next

Jerry,

This was discussed in my original post? We’re you the guy that dials in to the call but zones out looking at butterflies?

Save the eggnog until after the conversation with Santa otherwise you’ll ruin your career (let me stop calling it that) err ruin your uncertain but most definitely short timed existence as a mechanical member of the railroad.

Stop the negativity - so quit talking about what if and what could. Make your choice - 1.13 with only holiday pay or lay off the sauce and come in for a 2.21 with OT AND Holiday pay. Is not a could it’s a should. It’s not a what if it’s a when. That time in meow. HO HO HO

Juan, what should I do in the event I’ve had to much eggnog and can’t pass the UPRR piss evaluation?

Sincerely,

Jerry Givings
