CenturyLink to trim workforce by 175 jobs, cuts holiday bonuses

CenturyLink is trimming its workforce by approximately 175 jobs in locations across the 16 states that it serves, a spokesman confirmed this morning.

The same spokesman said that CenturyLink decided to discontinue holiday bonuses for its employees.

"As part of CenturyLink’s ongoing effort to remain cost-competitive and align resources with customer demand, we will offer voluntary separations to select union-represented field operations employees," the spokesman wrote in an email to FierceTelecom this morning.

Have been called and emailed over 25 times by different recruiters in the last 2 weeks from a Resume I posted 6 years ago. They are letting people go but interviewing and getting ready to hire back filling positions it appears also.

There is a smell in the air and it isn't Grandmas Christmas Dinner.

The company has lost most of it's knowledge. No respect for the tribe elders, and a bunch of management from the top down that think they and their little chosen few know better than anybody else. This is not how successful companies operate, those who ate successful such as Richard Branson truly appreciate their employees and don't keep what little profits they can squeeze out after destroying their companies for themselves.

Its called union busting. Contractors are hired/released at company discretion - no holiday pay, health benefits or pensions to worry about. Keep in mind Level 3 doesn't have a represented work force.

The company is offering buyouts which ultimately eliminates the older workers.

We all can honestly see that there is not enough work for the work force we have, but We still have contract labor in the workforce? why? in job functions that don't have enough work.

Whats going on that we have had a series of buyouts for people to leave the company, but no change in the amount of supervisors or mgrs that we have.

Why are there openings in places that they are having these buyouts??
