Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

No denying layoffs

It’s so funny how management addresses the rumors re building changes but completely passes over lay-off rumors, which are the ones everyone is freaked out about. The truth is members of management have leaked the info and have confirmed that 40-50% of staff in these stores receiving the (redesign) are going to be laid off.

I came to the same conclusion. There is no more denying that we are looking at significant cuts in staff. It wouldn't be that bad if they cut the dead weight that's there only because they are friends with the right people, but no. Watch as more of the good workers get shown the door as those people stay. And then they wonder why Macy's is failing.

It amuses me that you think store management knows anything about cuts or layoffs. It's all speculation, management is in the dark like everyone else. Every year the week after Xmas is when all of management starts to worry that their job will be cut. We know nothing, it's rumors.

We didn't cut hours last week, we were begging people to add extra days and extend their shifts. Had a HUGE week, made sales plan every day. Weekend was phenominal, and we are busy today and it's not all returns. We have a lot of open hours still trying to fill but everyone is tired or sick, and a lot of the seasonals coulndt hack it and disappeared already.

In my store, i was surprised to have a holiday person tell me they were told they’re last day will be today. I was so shocked. We usually have the people on as long as they can grab hours through January

It makes no sense. We still have people showing up for interviews because we have open jobs. But no hours for anyone?! WTH? Support Team hours are even worse....

It is not looking good for next year. I have worked for the company for 20 years and this is the first time that we are cutting hours the week before Christmas. The store manager is super frustrated as our Magic (service) comments from the customers complain about the condition of our stores and wait times, lines are long and we have stockrooms full of seasonal merchandise. Already talking to seasonal team members about their last days, many of them aren't even showing up anymore, but conference calls every morning with the region about not using hours.
