I used to be one of you , And to be perfectly honest I still would be if my store didn’t close . I used to always come here whenever there was rumblings of store closures or staff cuts . I had been with the company for 10 years and I know that’s nothing compared to some of you with 20 , 30 or even 40 years . It’s hard to let go trust me I know , over the past 3 to 5 years I’ve always said that I wanted to leave but never did . You guys need to come up with a exit strategy ( it’s easier to find a job when you already have one ) and please don’t for a second think about sticking around for the severance package, it won’t be there . ( my severance was canceled halfway through ) Its funny throughout my entire career at sears every older person that I have come into contact with has always told me to leave and find something better or to go back to college ( I dropped out once I start to get promoted within the company ) I started when I was 18 and now I am 28 years old and I’m finally going back to school . I could literally cry if I sit and think about all the time in the years that I wasted . Don’t be like me don’t waste anymore time don’t get forced out , come up with a plan and leave on your own accord .

I quit after 30 years full and part time
Two weeks notice and gone .
Best move I ever made
No buy out.
No severance
No regrets
The OP stated it so perfect! Apply now for a new job! If you know you will not get severance and I hear unemployment offers you strange jobs that you don't want so waiting for unemployment is going to be hard to get too because you'll be offered worse jobs than Sears..
2 months ago I stepped into the world of applying for jobs and was scared because of my age.. I'm 68
I was thrilled to get hired within a week by a competitor at a higher rate of pay and I love my new company!
So get out there and start applying now because it is easier to get a job while you're still actively employed!!!
I am so glad I took a chance!
