Cisco can get away with a lack of innovation due to its monopoly status in North America. Innovation is not necessary if governments and large enterprises only have one option.

I agree. I just went through separation in Nov '18. Several internal positions were opened (90% in San Jose of course). Cisco CEO goes on a rant during his monthly internal TV show in Sept and is forced to remind hiring managers to do their job and try to fill the newly created based on merit. Guess what. In Dec '18 they only managed to fill barely half. VPs and managers were not even responding to internal emails. In Cisco it's WHO you know, so selection process is primarily bases on networking - not on merit, skills or experience. At the same time HR leaders pat themselves on the back for doing their job and setting up internal job fairs... This is NUTS. Cisco is not going to survive in modern world and will continue bleeding talent. There's only so much you can do by riding on tailcoats of previous innovators... Sorry to sound negative, but having to worry about layoff every other quarter is too exhausting and distracting. There are much better employers out there than Cisco...

True that. Csco is a train to unemployability.

Those who think its a cushy place to rest and vest their rsu and enjoy their politics will be disappointed eventually. When times are tough, the big bosses will throw their minions under the bus

why do u want to work for a company where layoff is the only thing that happens, no work, no decent product, no motivation. If you are trying to accept a cisco offer, your choice, but you are going to hit a dead end to your career and people will look down upon your resume. I left cisco sometime back, switched 2 jobs, and i cannot feel better. That place wreaks of layoffs, and nothing else
