Can a manager put points that were approved

So for a good time assistant managers were approving lates if there was a legit excuse like car issues, told to clock in late, or shift not switched before the previous day. But recently some associates have had half points put back on.. are managers able to do this, is it legal to unapprove points after a long time?

Well. First off, I’m an Asm and let me say this. The car troubles/being sick/kid being sick, are the reasons that absences are allowed in the first place. You don’t get 8.5 “FiF” points and the legitiment reasons will be approved.

Now, that being said. We are allowed a certain amount of judgement when making the decision to authorize/unauthorize absences. Almost all of us have helped associates in the past who have come to us and provided documentation. Especially if they’re good associates.

Now, if you have 0 absences and you’re 2 hours late once. It’ll probably be unauthorized. Is it fair? Meh, you might not like it. But you’re also in no danger of losing your job. And most stores don’t do anything for associates with perfect attendance.

But to answer the OP’s question. Can we go back in and unauthorize points that have been approved previously? Absolutely. Is it illegal? Nope. Why is it done? Well. If an associate comes and begs for their job. And you give them another chance. And the proceed to call off again. It’s a slap in the face. I’m trying to help you, and make sure you have a job. And you obviously don’t care. You do this job long enough you start to realize that while stuff comes up, and things happen to everyone. It happens a lot more to other people. And you start to see the same associates take advantage of it. So yes, points can be unauthorized after originally being approved.

You can not reverse an approved absence unless it is for LOA denied. Car issues are why you have the ability to accrue 4(really 3.5) or 9 (really 8.5) points. Having more than 2 points for 6 months would drive me bonkers

As to the question 'is it legal?', absolutely! This is non contractual/at-will employment. Discipline-wise, they can quite literally do whatever they want with you.

The thing to remember too is, no matter which manager tells you they 'can't do anything to help you, it's 'company policy'', that's b.s. If they're a salaried manager they can do whatever they jolly well choose. That's why you'll see yourself getting screwed while watching others get away with murder.

Believe it.

I had car problems that caused me to be late and I got half a point. I still have my half a point. No manager took my point off. I know that they are not fair about the point systems. Because some employees should have been fired. Is there a way around the point systems?

You wouldn't think so. But here lately seems like they do what they want to.
