Just sent email that we will be notified of whether or not you were accepted. I was under the impression that if you offered the buyout and chose to go, you would be told what off payroll date you received. Now if I am reading this correctly it sounds like they will determine if we can go based on the needs of the business, and that acceptance is not guaranteed. Huh?

all good til you get denied
Any selection should always go to the most senior or oldest members in a group. That is true for any company. Regardless of age if a person has 30 plus years they certainly should get first consideration.
If someone has ten years and is unhappy then they need to leave on their own terms. In the span of a persons work career 10 years is nothing if you are under age 50. If you are age 40 and have 20 years then get out on your own terms. You will still have 25 years or more before you retire.
There is high uncertainty in the company whether you are craft or management. Verizon may not even be an entity in a few years. If you have somewhere to go or think you can find another field to work in then your best 'mental health' option may be to leave the company on your own terms.
9 years ago we were offered a eisp. But the company declared a set amount of people surplus in each department and they only gave the most senior the package to leave. That made the guys that also wanted it disgruntled. They eventually quit or retired. 2 years ago they offered a isp no one took it. The people they declared surplus were let go without pay. They were called back to work after a little while but already moved on with their lives.
@ctf, are you serious, or just pulling our leg?
They cheered when you clicked.
Don’t worry brother, they had already picked the bar for your retirement party before you clicked.
Stop being delusional ( or, trolling, if that’s what’s afoot ).
Yeah. They leave us to agonize over a decision for six weeks then come back and remind us that they have us by the short hairs. They sold it to the press as if they were letting us choose our own destiny. In reality they just didn't want to be sued for laying off tbe over-fifty crowd.
I got the mark reed letter too. Looks like was addressed to “V team” so it went to everyone I suppose. Said we will be notified on 12/10 if accepted. Nothing to get excited about.
I just turned 65 and have 22 years of service. Wonder if I'll "qualify"?
I have the longest years of service of those who volunteered in my department (23yrs). I'm soooooo hoping I'm selected. I just want this wait to be over.
@ctf 30 years you're in the clear. They'll make that work, even if your VSP compadres are at 40 years. Less than 20 years .. not so much. Enjoy your post-VZ life.
looks like you didn't understand anything that was going on for last few months
I'm the OP with 30+ years of service. I never thought for one minute they would deny a fifty something person with 30+ years.. now someone with 5 or 10 yes but not someone with a lot of years. What would be their reasoning and please don't tell me needs of the business.
@kcd is correct. Decisions will be made on a team by team basis.
Each team had a pre-determined number of employees they wanted to release. Executives want teams to accept that number and deny everyone else but, there are leaders who would rather accept everyone and backfill with people who want to work for the company.
Geez OP, do your due diligence when making such an important decision. This was all very clear.
It is likely there just as an out just in case cya thing.
No one will likely be denied.
It had been said so many times in the hr call, in the faq in the original site and even on this board I’m surprised anyone wouldn’t know unless the repetition made people forget.
I have 30 years why would I not get it?
Kqh. How do you know that. Any inside info?
I thought that was pretty clear from day one......
no one will be denied.
No guarantee we will get it. I put in for it but I’m younger and only have 10 years. I don’t think I’m in the target group. The company is very strategic. They offer to everyone but know exactly who they want. Then they will see “needs of the business”. I hope I’m wrong but I have Union members as my direct reports so I’ve been on the opposite end and see how the company does. Every year they off associates a buy out only to let 1 or 2 people from each office go.
Then guess what happens the ones who wanted are so checked out quit when they don’t get it. It’s a win win for Verizon. It’s a game. I hope I’m wrong
Good luck to all.
that was always the case. acceptance was never guaranteed. the company has always held all the cards with this VSP.
