Thread regarding Cancer Treatment Centers of America layoffs

500 laid off at CTCA company wide 11/2018

500 employees were laid off at Cancer Treatment Centers of America on November 15 and 16, 2018. The current business model continues to lose ground. New patient volume continues to decline in all but 1 hospital. The lack of managed care contracts and poor management has contributed to the decline. CEO left suddenly in September 2018. Other managers have continued to leave without reason.

Sounds like all the CTCA hospitals are following the same pattern as Tulsa. The physicians are disrespected by upper management, physicians told what to do by CNO's and VP's, even saw physicians fired and walked out the door with no notice. Many layoffs, over the last few years. Nurses, people of all disciplines were laid off with no more than a same day notice. The experienced people who made CTCA what it was, the real carriers of the torch of the Mother Standard tossed aside, whilethe much less experienced people survived the layoffs, even new graduates. I guess in effort to save money while greatly compromising quality care. Managers, Directors, VP's, CNO's have no direction with which to lead. Most of them friends from hospitals of previous employ in Tulsa...mostly from St. Francis...bringing their colleagues over to CTCA making them managers and directors, but these people came wiith no real leadership skills. Many if them mainly working on their own resumes to get advancement within the company...they lie to employees with no conscience...dispicable...dishonest...they have no solutions to problems...they dont act like they even care... always out of touch because they are "in meetings". This has been a large part of the demise of the "Mother Standard" of care...we employees referred to it as the "Other Standard" or the "Mother in law Standard." CEO's come and go...none of them affecting any positive change It is a shame that founder and owner Mr. Stephenson did not do a better job of mainting the integrity CTCA once had. I have never seen...in any profession...so many amateurs in leadership allowed to take such a wonderful vision and bring it to near demise. What the hell Mr. Stephenson? Sell your hospitals to someone who knows what they are doing. The days of the "Mother Standard" are history.

Remember the best healthcare is expensive. If you run out of insurance or money you aren’t good enough to be treated here.

The poor get care at less quality hospitals. CTCA has been recognized among the American hospital association as the best hospital in the world!

The Mayo Clinic and MD Anderson have tried to steal the methods of the most brilliant hospital in the world.

So cry as you may if you are uninsured. We at CTCa deserve the most money available. They ARE known to be the best in the business

As a former clinician at this place for years, I have seen copies of medical bills brought to me by my dying patients in the past years who were in distress over the fact that they and their insurance companies were being charged hundreds of thousands of dollars for agents I know are sometime dirt cheap, and others hipped in price 10 x the community standards.

So saddened with a heavy heart. CTCA was considered the beast for many cancers now it can appear that they just don't care . What happened to the owner what happened to treating the whole person
CTCA Mission statement ..."CTCA is the home of integrative and compassionate cancer care. We never stop searching for and providing powerful and innovative therapies to heal the whole person, improve quality of life and restore hope."I have been the caregiver & now a patient. My heart is broken. My oncologist left with no warning All of my original practitioners have changed out, some three times. MIND/Body, Acupuncturist, and Naturopath all left, not replaced. Scheduling is impossible CTCA is the home of integrative and compassionate cancer care. We never stop searching for and providing powerful and innovative therapies to heal the whole person, improve quality of life and restore hope. Today I was told that the radiologist who reads breast MRIs is either leaving or has left therefore I am not able to have follow up MRI. Really don't even the mediocre hospital offers more than that ?

Kind of useless to post here. CTCA apparently has control over who gets posted. I work at Emory. I see posts that Emory employees go to CTCA. We are forbidden to go there. It is the lowest quality that is why they are in so much legal trouble.

Well good luck telling the truth here CTCa owns this site as well

I got downsized and fired after more than ten years with almost every year getting a high exceptional performance rating and they let my group leader leave even before getting downsized and they gave him with more than a year salary and save his insurances and others benefits. unfair treatment to those who were loyal to you company.

The cut 20 percent of our staff and then place three dictator consultants in charge of sales group with absolutely zero sales management experience and think that will solve problems. It is one bad move after the other.Time to move elsewhere I think.

Failed leaders get huge severance while workers get cut! How do you sleep at night?

Interim leadership is a joke and continuing cost-cutting moves and implementing more bad strategy that will put the final nail in CTCA's coffin.

You oust past failing leaders from their roles by moving them to another protected role elsewhere or send them off with huge severance packages - while you downsize the very workers who have been busting their butts for you - weeks before the holidays! Here's the message you send to everyone "fail as a leader and we'll protect you and actually financially reward you - and stick-it to the staff who will pay for your failure".

Follow up that brilliance with moving remnants of the same flawed leadership mind-set into interim replacement roles so they can completely extinguish any chance you have of salvaging your values, your integrity, or your business.

What a train wreck! You should be ashamed.

500 laid off because:

  1. Our owner put a consultant in as CEO, CIO - and is about to make that same mistake twice!

  2. Ineptness in marketing leadership - and no clue how to fix it!

  3. Ineptness in expanding our network of carriers - and no clue how to fix it!

  4. Ignorance in strategy and no clue how to optimize new clinics or get your hospitals working together!

  5. Ineptness in sales leadership - placing an unskilled child to do an adults job two years ago!

  6. Ineptness in technology leadership - implementing a new platform that has failed and brought your company efficiency to its knees!

  7. Ineptness in process management (operational excellence?) - the end to end process for a new patient is the best world-example of how NOT to build a winning model!

  8. Ineptness in keeping appointments (hospitals) - our cancellation rates lead the industry and nobody knows what to do other than finger-point!

  9. Ineptness in patient attrition (hospitals) - they're running out the back door quicker than they're coming in the front! Not treating with us for a reason!

  10. Same dumb people making the same dumb mistakes - get rid of the current Exec's, the infamous consultants, the process people, the crony-leaders! You have qualified leaders already in your ranks, ready to take the reins and restore whats been lost. Take the garbage out and let them lead you back to the top!

Past clinicians that work there we have joined forces to let the medical community know what they suspect - the care is substandard

We past employees actively inform all clinicians to spread the word so quality clinicians don’t ruin their careers here. The reputation as a negligent provider persists and is warranted.

Patients be careful! They will drain your insurance and bank account and sell false hope while delivering substandard care. Your life depends on avoiding this scam can’t evem call it a hospital

This WAS a great place to work. If you are diagnosed with terminal cancer and needed a place that is willing to fight for you, then you will understand. The current Corporate leaders have no idea and are completely out of touch at what makes this place great for the workers and their patients. It has completely lists it’s soul. With the current layoff, they got rid of senior employees that makes this place run. They replaced them with inexperienced managers whose ambitions exceed their abilities. Leaders that just fake it but are completely ignorant of the job they took on, making everyone unhappy and morale among workers have been at its lowest. Their decisions are running this place to the ground yet those responsible for the crisis are still around while those that truly are concerned about safety and legality of the operations are gone.

It will never be what it once was. Had a great culture under the previous long-time SVP. The current SVP is no leader, just a crooked, heartless, unethical dictator. But he has the ear of the new CEO so will be in place until they continue to drive it into the ground.

The sooner this closes the sooner those with cancer will have one less fraudulent company to drain their insurance and resources.

This is a happy day for those who are searching for real treatment and not overpriced unneeded worthless treatment and care.

This horrible place. Tea party hospital only concerned about profits. All insurers have pulled out after all the federal fraud issues and federal settlements.

When you run out of insurance from their overpriced unneeded treatments, they toss you aside whilst still trying to deal with a cover diagnosis. Good end to a bad company.
