Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Obliterating the livelihoods of tens of thousands of employees

Rescued from the abyss by a $53 billion dollar bailout (which hasn't been fully paid back), a strong economy, record revenues, etc. What more could Mary Barra, this phony leader of GM want? With all this "help", it should emphasize her utter incompetence and failure as a leader.

Perhaps her legacy of "recreating" GM will stand, but not without the expense of obliterating the livelihoods of tens of thousands of employees who dedicated their lives to this company through thick and thin, only to get kicked to the curbed rather than retrained to meet company needs. Sad.

@1aep - if the future requires even one person to put in an ounce of effort not to be left behind, then the future isn't worth having and is unjustified.

anyone dedicating their lives...to a company...is the fool. it is 2018, and any worker must keep their skills marketable, for their career - the days of 'working for the man' for decades is a legacy mindset, for fools that want others to take care of them.

i see this as change - let's not see GM repeat history - let's see them apply lessons learned

Greed, safety, lack of team concern, Bonuses, and more that's why this is being done. Don't you get it. It's the same old c-ap that has been going on for 75 years. Anyone who works for an auto company has got to be nuts. Get rid of those employees in the IT and Finance area that have really caused the problems with there fine design and analysis.

OP, not sure why is it so hard for you to see that there are massive shifts in customer preferences and how the industry will look in 5 to 10 years.

The pace of change is rapid, unseen before... Hence radical moves...

We live in interesting times.

Where is your union dollars going if the Union cant save your jobs? Union pay going into union leaders pockets and not helping anyone.

Trump, Big Business CEO's and Big Union CEO's are all part of the problem

The loans have been paid off , may you should check your facts before posting something from the Trump Train

WASHINGTON—Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said an unauthorized individual was responsible for retweeting a statement calling on General Motors Co. to repay the government billions of dollars it received as part of the 2008 auto industry bailout.

If they don't close plants that make unprofitable cars, then there will be another bail out down the road.
