Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Moral will not be the same anymore

24 years VSPer, I have been checked out since clicked button. I have trouble getting focused in last couple months. What productivity and morals are not my concern. The company will look much more different next year. Verizon just followed some steps of other failed outsourcing, like Fannie Mae, but shot it self in foot first for never bringing original employees back. Fannie Mae eventually had to hire them back to run the business and plus more hiring to fix their failure. But the moral will not be the same anymore.

Bumped this from @Wuhw9sn-1slz . Feel exactly the same.

@1oky, agreed.

It’s cringe-worthy when some manager posts here calling a colleague a “looser”, making the accuser sound like the real “loser”.

Also, c’mon, you’re a manager. Write like someone that is deserving of the role of lording over others. Here’s a hint:

Morale sounds like “More AL”, whereas moral sounds like “More-ULL”.

Capisce (I’ll enunciate for lower level management - it’s pronounced cah-PEESH here, and Cah-PEE-shee when in Rome).

Sigh, so much fail in the thread... just in basic English.

Y'all need to look at a dictionary before you post.

Some posts have gotten this right... when you don't get it right (like the OP), it's much easier for educated people to dismiss.

Company will not be the same. The men and women that formed Verizon will be mostly gone.

The remaining will always be concerned about job security.

Lessons learned. Get prepared, keep skills current, keep resume ready, get your finances in order, max out your 401K pretax and then contribute to 401K Roth after you meet the 401K pretax limit of $19K and if applicable 401K catchup $6K.

Morale will rebound by 3Q 2019 for the non-volunteers until the announcement of a reduced severance, or next RIF, or rebadging, whichever comes first. Morale for the volunteers that were denied won't rebound until 2020 if they are still employed at the company.

I am shocked by all the moral issues around the company. I like my job. I am paid well, and have very little issue with any coworkers. I am staying and find it odd that people feel sorry for me! Perhaps I am just extremely lucky to have a job I enjoy. It may be more difficult for a little while, but who cares?

@zji, don’t confuse confidence with arrogance. Arrogance is being full of yourself, feeling you're always right, and believing your accomplishments or abilities make you better than other people. People often believe arrogance is excessive confidence, but it's really a lack of confidence. Arrogant people are insecure, and often repel others. Truly confident people feel good about themselves and attract others to them.

Arrogance is a self-defense tactic to disguise insecurities.

An arrogant bug is a c---y roach.

Morale is going to tank. You can't run this company with the talent they're going to lose. It's going to be an absolute disaster. I feel really bad for all of my peers I leave behind. Can't wait to get my off payroll date on Monday!!!!

Losers don't give up a high paying job voluntarily because they know they can't get a better gig in the market. Winners and top performers take the money because they know they can bank it and get another good gig based on performance and credentials. I know a lot of very smart and talented people who took the package and are not retiring. Business model here is changing and I think leadership feels they can make it simple enough that discarding the experience will be manageable. Best of luck to my colleagues who remain and are tasked with fixing this mess in 2019. It will be a difficult year and then I predict more RIF's by next summer once the org is put together. This also means those who remain will be in "protect my castle" mode. Let the political moves begin.

That is one of the smaller reasons I hope I get the VSP, there are a few losers in the group staying. But of course they say that is everywhere.

So what can we learn from this, what is the moral of this.

All of what you said sounds good until it fails. Executives are not held responsible for their bad decision making rather they get a better job next time. That's why they have contracts that most others don't, they walk away richer than the day that they came in.

I hope VZ is successful in what it does but if it isn't who is responsible for the failure?

Moral has been "circling the drain" for years and not just because of all Rifs, buyouts, etc. Verizon Management has no clue what they are doing and it will come back to bite them in the arse. It's not a matter of IF but WHEN.

Speak for your self. Moral will be great without all the losers that are dragging this company like an anchor. We'll lose some good people but also many who dont deserve to be here. The business model is changing.
