Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Mismanagement of acquired software companies

Here’s another classic example how IBM historically mismanages software from the Companies they’ve acquired. HCL just purchased eight (8) IBM software solutions for $1.8 Billion. This price tag is slightly more than HALF of what IBM ORIGINALLY PAID … just for Lotus … back in 1995. Amazing! IBM never invested in Lotus to compete head-on with Microsoft Office. I guess the other IBM software was “tossed in” to sweeten the deal with HCL. So, if you believe in history repeating itself, what do you think will happen to Red Hat? I’m betting Red Hat will share a similar fate … unless sweeping changes happen in Armonk. If you're currently working at Red Hat understand resource limits will be imposed to improve the existing Red Hat software stack over time. By the way, Vegas odds are on my side.

This post paints the picture of the way IBM treats its acquisitions, so I thought it needed to be reposted as a thread from @WvIsIvY-llt

IBM revenues are going to only be going down in the next 2-3 years, and Red Hat will not change that. IBM is about to sell more stuff on top of the software being sold to HCL. IBM Services (GTS + GBS) is going to be sold very shortly to raise cash to pay for the acquisition of Red Hat.

Unless you are in the Systems, Cloud, Dev/Research divisions, you should be very worried.

Buy companies to jack up revenues through financial reengineering tactics from circa 1970's. Stuff ELA's with the the latest new software purchase. Software never gets deployed. Reversals 3 years later. Never invest in the acquired software and lay off large amounts of staff. Armonk and the board should be ashamed of that tactic. I think its pretty shady and should be investigated by GAAP financial experts. Dont buy IBM equity or bonds.

OS/2 Warp was still extant in 1995. IBM still owned ThinkPad. Times change.
