Can anyone tell me when we drawl unemployment - we claim the severance. What happens then, I know they will stop the payment—- but for how long?

That is correct. It varys from state to state . You need to call or go to your state employment office.

In Texas, I collected unemployment almost immediately for about 6 months over $12,000. Just as long as you follow the job search requirements for your state. After the 6 months, I then found another job. In your severance package it says you can file for unemployment.

If you receive the severance pay you can’t draw unemployment for the number of weeks you were paid for. So if you received 13 weeks of pay you can apply for unemployment on the 14th week.
