Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

It’s time for me to speak about our store closure

To begin it all started with not receiving a wine reset back 6 months ago! The wine vendor told us it was unusual. The last time a club didn’t receive one they were closed according to them. At this point a group of associates started putting things together. While doing so we are now at the point the steel in the club is empty.Hardlines is empty. Deli is empty. Produce is empty. Dc trucks are only sent one by one. Never do they get more than one dc truck a night. Items are being markdown. Items not normally marked down like spaghetti, bread, tea etc. Market managers have stopped visiting. On Thursday, club managers will be going to different clubs to work supposedly but HO we are not dumb. Come Thursday we will have that sign on the door. The group I mentioned earlier has excepted their fate, one has even had to endure this torture of a club closure once before. This company is not the picture we were painted years ago. To HO we know what’s happening stop the c-ap and let’s do this. I feel bad because this job is what puts food on the table for lots of these associates but to all of you it will be ok. Move forward with your life and don’t look back what is meant to happen will happen. I noticed lots of people on this site are scared to say their club number well here you go. Winter is coming, May the odds forever be in your favor. Please list your club numbers in the reply and let’s show them all that we are not stupid, we do not agree with what they are doing to us, and that it will never be forgot. Club number 4836

I was an MSAM at a closed club. We figured it out for a few reasons; financials - biggest drivers: what do sales look like, how many years running down? Profit...same question, membership...same question. Clubs will look lighter for a variety of reasons in January, and the levels in fresh are not one of them, every small to medium volume club should be running extremely light on fresh.

Heres what I would do, go pull up some top tens in your club, then go and scan, if you have low on hands and consistently none on order, that's a problem.

You said there were markdowns, are these canceled items or just markdowns while staying active?

Lastly, the company does a fairly good job taking care of you in the aftermath, yes its emotional, yes it s---s, but you have multiple months to search for a job while being paid and then get a severance. They have people that can help with resumes and interviewing skills. A closure isn't the worst thing in the world, typically the ones who want to stick around, like myself, land themselves in another club.

I have two immediate family members who are employed at Sam's Club both of them depend on this job to feed their families. I have about 20 years experience in the field of retail with the majority of it i spent at walmart ive seen alot of changes in my time i guess u could say i been around long enough to remember the red book if that tells u anything. To seehow sams club and walmart do there associate now u better belive sam Walton would be digging his butt up out of the grave. With the way his company is treating there associates. You got all these top ceos setting up there at there home office jobs making well in to the 6 an 7 digits a year while down at store level all you hear is we have to cut payroll cut payroll cut payroll we have to make our numbers come in less than last year when are these company's going to realize its the customer or member first without that you dont have any numbers at all. Every customer that co es in the front door should be treated has its the only customer thats going to shop that day. One for all and all for one customers first

I can't speak for your club, not familiar with how frequent your DCs were prior to this but it is a slow time of year, a lot of clubs will be seeing less DCs due to less sales.

Last year I had the pleasure of traveling to one of the clubs that were closing to help. This club was still receiving DCs after the announcement of closure.

Markdowns are due to the seasons changing. A lot of items will be being cancled because we need to make room for new spring items!

I wouldn't stress to much over it. I have a feeling we won't see store closures this year. I think they will waot at least another year due to bad publicity.

Did HO just admit to us closing? Read the first sentence carefully. Associate from club 4836. Don’t know who posted this but we stand together.

We are thinking of you all at this time. You will make it through! A majority that choose to leave will wonder why they didn't do it sooner. Some will move onto other clubs or Walmart. It'll be a bit of an adjustment. Some will quit once they realize they don't like where they ended up. Others will want to go back to Sam's after picking Walmart and vice versa. Only thing I know for sure is this place is not a place to stick around. If you decide to stay, you are only slowly killing your career. Treat like a bandaid and rip that thing off. Good luck to all!
