I keep hearing rumors of combining Hardware and Tools into one department, including combining the aisles. I told the person that Lowe's is not going to spend $10's of millions to totally re-merchandise the store.
Has anybody heard more about this? Any chance it's true? If so, when is it supposed to start?
In my store, Tools and Hardware are one department. They are across from each other and all the associate hours come from Tools and the associates cover both areas all day. They did the same thing with Paint and Windows and Walls. All the hours come from Paint and the paint associates are all trained to sell blinds.
I think they could for hours cutting, but not physically. In my old store they were right next to each other and because of hours reduction there were many times there was just one person running around trying to help everyone.
My store has already done this. No need to remerchadise the stores just tell the associates to cover the other department. Been going on for several years at my store. My store manager is so cheap that when the hair dryers in paint died he refused to buy new ones. Associates had to bring in old ones from home.
