Why? Why can't we be different? Why can't we do our own thing? Why do we have to be like other retailers? Why can't we think outside the typical retail box? Why?

They have to do something to make it look like they are making improvements so they can get their big fat bonus checks annually. They are just making the same mistakes they have done in all the other companies they enter and destroy. The only one that comes out well is Ellison. He leaves before all his messes catch up to him. He leaves with a big pocket of money that could have been used for better purposes in the company.
wow..thank you so much for the economics lesson. We had no idea that making money for the shareholders was the foremost priority. As for the Hobby Lobby comparison i don't think that poster was necessarily comparing private versus publicly traded companies as much as stating that Hobby Lobby is a very successful company in its own right. So your comparison may be the "terrible" one. There are many ways to make more money/ be more profitable and the one that takes the least amount of skill, vision and fortitude is just cut cut cut. Thats what low talent hacks do...pick the low hanging fruit. But like i said...Thanks for the economics lesson.
Uhhhhh cause u have to make money for shareholders. Many on here need to brush up on what public companies are created to do. Make $ for shareholders. Hobby lobby is private so terrible comparison. If you don’t like working in retail there are alternatives if you have the skill set. If not then you need to build that skill set. But retail is not going to change because people complain on social media forums. Sorry
Because the stock market dictates that success must be emulated to be duplicated. It wants you to repeat and copy. Innovation takes real courage. We don’t have it.
being different requires vision and fortitude. This company sadly has neither. It's so much wasier to just follow what the big guy does. And that in and of itself is fine if you want to be 2nd, 3rd, 4th place. Their are examples of highly successful companies in retail but many are successful even though they are terrible companies (walmart, amazon, HD etc). Different can work I.e. Hobby Lobby but again it takes skill, vision, AND fortitude. None of which is likely to develop here anytime soon despite our best hopes.
