I am one of those 20 year olds

I am one of those 20 year olds that keeps getting talked about and I want everyone on here that keeps bashing my generation to stop for one second and look at what has happened to you are that is about to happen to you. Yes all longterm associates have this work ethic that is unbelievable and you have given this company your life, alot of you choose the company over your own family and now ask yourself for what. THIS COMPANY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU and you cannot accept that. Why in the world would I want to do that. The days of working for a company your entire life and be loyal is gone. The world has changed and no probably not for the better. To prove my point about how your generation cannot accept the fact that this company could give a rats a-- about you someone is going to get on here and still defend this sess pool of a company and tell me how great it is and still tell me how sorry I am for not caring about this company. You are right I dont give a damn about the company just like it does not give a damn about me. If they went out of business tomorrow I could care less and before you jump all over me think about this when they tell you your position is being eliminated and we want to offer you a severance pkg and we want to thank you for all your hard work and dedication and its not personnel but we are going in a different direction. Do you think for one second that they care that you may lose your home. HELL NO THEY DONT

Just tied of no one looking at why my generation does what we do. Why give a company everything when down the road you will be fired because the company decided it was going in a different direction. By the way its nothing PERSONNEL THAT I COULD GIVE A DAMN IF THIS COMPANY GOES OUT OF BUSINESS.

Your post is the epitome of why older generations bash us. Thanks for making us all look dumb.

Hey 20 year old..I think I hear your mommy calling. She's done making your dinner and just folded your laundry and made your bed.

The only problem is 20 year olds don’t understand history. When I began my career, companies did care about their employees and, in turn, employees cared about their company. That eroded beginning with trickle down economics and deregulation. Yes companies no longer care about their employees.

I will argue one point though. It is the work ethic that has kept the older generation employed all these years. Those with poor work ethic will always be the first out the door. There is no need any longer to emotionally invest in your company but you still need to earn your paycheck.

Dear 20 Something,

Look up the meaning of work ethic. It doesn't mean you give your life up to your employer. Start with

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Work_ethic. Any rational person knows a company doesn't care about the individual. A company can't care about anything. It has no beating heart, no blood, no life, no feelings. It's a thing. These older associates, these people. they believed in a man, Mr. Walton, and while he was alive, this was a decent place to work. He cared. He's gone. They are having a hard time adjusting. Well, most of them. Some are just id--ts.

20 year old this is a great post. I should be more like you. But I have a mortgage to pay and kids to feed. See how that might change your attitude a bit? It’s called responsibilities. Makes it much more stressful for some. No the company does not owe me anything. And yes I will find a new job if my position is eliminated. But there are certain events that will happen that come with age and growing up that I feel you have not reached yet. It’s no longer a career job I agree, but some of us who still work for the company started when you could make it a career. I don’t think we bash the 20 year olds just to bash you. No disrespect meant. Picture it like working with your parents who feed you, buy you clothes, pay for your activities/entertainment. And then after 20 years, the company decides to shift direction and your parents are caught in this transition. You might feel a little differently if you had to change your lifestyle abruptly.

I like how passionate you are, but you just sound like a youngster who hasn't lived life. Print this post out and keep it. Read it again in 25 yrs. You're going to be a little embarrassed.

Excellent post. Boomers are bitter because they bought into the lie that the company cares for them.
