Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Vena’s operating model

I saw that the appointment of Jim Vena as the new company COO was debated on om of the threads, but there was not a lot of talk about what that appointment means for the company structure. As the company official press release stated, he was hired to implement the operating plan that was successfully used at Canadian National for years. Implementing a new operating plan obviously calls for some changes in shifts in the company structure, at least at the operating level, so my question is what changes can we expect with Venas’operatin plan. Will there be any layoffs, shifts, reorgs… etc? Thoughts???

What I read is he is "The biggest PSR Fish UP could have landed" "He has a short Temper and no patience for excuses" "He left CN after not being awarded the CEO position" "This was the missing link to what UP needed to guarantee their PSR implementation"

I suspect a few things:

  1. He went into retirement because he did not get the CEO position at CN, I suspect he will replace Lance soon.

  2. He is an outsider and will have no hard feelings making cuts where investors want. Employment, pet projects (steam shop and Heritage fleet), extra assets yards and shops.

  3. There will be major reorganization with him.

Very Very good point:

"New EX vp has no political ties from within"

Don't they call it a "Hatchet man"??

I knew they couldn't pull this PSR thing off without some outside (aka more intelligent) help. Our leaders Suuuuuk.

Get real folks you need to read hunter harrisons recent book, bottom line 30% let go is minimum, they will trim non TEY , mgm administrative , folks until the rubber band breaks. TEy get their just reward once fed gov accepts ptc implementation, then phase two happens class 1's push for 1 man crews, union agreements have to be dealt with 6-10 yrs, in the mean time the 21,000 and depleting folks ought to stop b--ching, or move on, there is life after this train wreck disaster. New EX vp has no political ties from within, therefore its much easier to trim without political bs

Layoffs still will happen....do more with less. 16 hour days. You know why CN engines have coffee pots and microwaves, right...
