Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Quick fact check

No Alex CNRL did not do across the board 10% wage cuts. It was graduated to income level and their executive took a 20% cut first. And there were no layoffs. Contrast that with CVE where minions took a bonus cut and the executive kept themselves whole and we’ve had 7+ rounds of layoffs. They lead by example ours did not, they hid behind a survey.

Also once again they blame the average employee for being a whiner and not knowing how good they have it. Big Z probably thinks about what a bunch of whiners we are as he drives his Mercedes out to his gated lake mansion and Alex as he heads to his island get away.

No mention of your top 10 award? How strange

By the sounds of your post, you are a disgruntled HR employee or ex- HR employee. kind of a stupid question but do you think people posting on layoffs.com care about what you have to say? purely a rhetorical question. if you have read other posts on this site, i'm sure you know what I'm getting at.

Yes, Z is a real genius. Time to head back to the farm buddy where things are little more manageable.

@2ufs - I agree. What positive stuff should we focus on? Maybe that great view from Brookfield? Government imposed production cuts that likely saved us from another round of layoffs and a tanked stock price? From my view management hasn't done anything to make work better for the rank and file employees, and its unbelievable how little compassion they display. This week's town hall made the message clear: you do your job, you think in terms of 'we', you take whatever we feed you and you enjoy it or you leave. I almost fell off my chair when Z said that in his opinion inclusiveness meant everyone getting behind a decision that was made and moving forward. What? Smh.

Cenovus has a culture problem. Mostly because the whiny few like to create toxicity to feed others. People need to be more positive and move on.

And why is Alex spending time working on a board of another company? Isn’t he a full time CVE employee just like us. I hope he’s using his vacation time up when he’s working on that other companies business. Maybe I will go contract to CNRL during work hours to top myself up too?

Just for some additional clarity, my friend at Husky received a bonus last year as well. I'm tired of the propaganda coming out of leadership now.

No big surprises, Alex probably was fed the info from Bangs. Nobody likes to admit being wrong, but the CLT is completely out of touch and incapable of looking in the mirror and conceiving the possibility they might be a source of the culture problem. But apparently we shouldn't have a culture problem because we are the lowest cost operator.... wtf? Did I miss hear that statement, I must have miss heard because I can't make the connection.

Let's not forget about the Board of Directors who clearly have their heads planted firmly up their asses.

Good post. That pretty much sums up many of the reasons for people's discontent. The leadership at CVE, through their actions, has made it clear that non-management employees do not matter and are not important to the success of the company. They are not interested in employee engagement and prefer to manage with the threat of layoffs rather than solid leadership.

Kudos to CNRL for a "we are all in this together" attitude and actions that support it.
