I work in the backroom in my club. Was the lead in Receiving before the change. First they eliminated the Clerk position, now we are down to 2 FT and 1 PT. Myself and the dock associate are continually getting disciplined for not getting into the claims room, it is extremely difficult. Was wondering if everyone else is having the same problems. Management thinks it is no problem for us to get into claims even though none of our managers knows how to work in either the dock or claims. they have all of these answers for what we should be doing but they themselves have no idea how to perform the tasks in either area. Would love to hear what is working for you and if everyone is struggling as much as we are

It is working great at my club. My clerk left, the one with all the knowldge but only because our CM made her. TL took another position in the club leaving the claims guy. CM brilliantly hired a new person for the backroom. They also have someone stay in claims while the other 2 do the receiving side, which the clerk was doing alone for 2 months. So, please tell me that letting 2 associates go, hiring one, and placing another in the back did anything? Our club has the same amount of people in the back. All the while getting overtime EVERY day! How did this save payroll? It didn't.
It's proof of pushing all long term associates out! Also, it was a requirement, per the job description, to be forklift certified within 30 days. Why has the new person not even been on a lift and even tried to learn? Talk about law suit. All this company does is lie and betray people.
The new backroom program is working great! Stupid people who don't have a clue how to do the job, getting a raise, and getting lots of overtime! Smart move!

Wow , get over it already .... you are a glorified "BACKROOM " worker. You work in the backroom now. Sayyyy BACKROOM . Its not that hard . Go with the changes or this Company will eat you alive. Sounds like it already has started.
With all due respect, I do not need someone telling me to accept the backroom re-allignment and there is no such position as a dock associate. I will never accept something as stupid as this decision to screw up the RECEIVING department. I was the lead for many years, and because some quack in Bentonville who probably never worked in RECEIVING thinks they know ALL and came up with this STUPID, id--tIC idea. I will always refer to it as RECEIVING.
Hi, Original poster. I'm a former Clerk who took severance and yeah I know it's stupid to care and read this, but my best friend is a backroom associate now.
The first issue I see with your post is that you called the other associate, a dock associate. That position no longer exists and you are both backroom. The sooner you accept this and work at it the better off you'll be. Not making this comment to help club, but to help you.
Hourlies are the club, not management.
My old club picked my friend (former dock associate) and the claims associate for backroom. I didn't apply, knew who they wanted, since I don't drive lift. I was offered cashier or go to Walmart, made choice easy.
For 31 years, I was treated very well by some mgrs. and very poorly by others. No matter what I worked the same, giving it my best even when CM doesn't know Sam's.
As I said this comment I my poor way of trying to help you deal with the situation, give it your best find something else. I never left before because I knew I could not find the money and benefits to compare.

Okay, as stated by the majority of comments we know there is no way this is going to work. Too much work for 3 people. No time for paperwork in either office, everything getting thrown away or donated to whom ever they want. Management pretends that they don't see anything as long as it looks clean back there. These people are under so much stress and wait till freight start to pick up again in February. I honestly think we are going to start losing some of these people. Maybe this is what they want so you lose out on the severance that you passed on. There excuse will be we don't have any full time positions.
Hey atleast the cim/pallet tags that were supposed to be added in october will now be added in feburary. So basically that means august.
It's sad that you complain about a job you interviewed for, a job that still basically has a set schedule, where you make top dollar and you knew going in that it was going to be difficult. Wait till summer, it will really get interesting with all the large orders going out the back door, vacations being taken and an increase in merchandise. I see plenty of "it doesn't matter" attitude . Just do the job your getting PAID ( $ 20 TO $ 24 ) ( level C but not a team lead) to do and stop the whining.

Not going to lie I throw so much away now. I don't even make orange stickers anymore I just damage out and send to return center cause it's faster. Can just barely keep up, if I'm ever out sick for a couple days I might as well just quit cause I would never catch up.

Our attitude is "just make it look good".
We no longer check prices on POs or add deposits (if needed).
Colored "sell-by" tags on pallets? Nope.
Magazines haven't ASNed in months, so we use the new app and key them case by case.
We do not CIM tag anything. If it were that important, the HO would have ensured it was a part of the new backroom app.
Anything that is a code 2 return immediately gets thrown away. We don't have time to mess with club voices to get it activated, let alone go to the service desk to sell/resell. Who would watch the dock? There are only 2 of us working 80 hours over 7 days.
Breaks? not anymore - see my last comment.
Any floor damages or "why is this thing back here?" immediately get scanned out as a damage through the new app and is put in the compactor. Our damages must have tripled since the change, but management hasn't said a word because our area is clean.
Transfer reports -get thrown in the garbage. No body has time for that.
We do RTVs and dot.com returns religiously because they are relatively simple.
Haz-watste IS a priority.
We just keep making new liquidation boxes and throwing them on pallets. God help us, we have no idea what that is all about. Some day I will find the time to figure this out.
We have created a miracle box for claims. We have no idea what reports we need to be checking daily, but any paperwork that is generated gets thrown in the box.
Basically, management ignores us (not so different from before the change) because the backroom looks good.
If they were to look under the surface, they would see a complete mess. But, they wouldn't even know what to look for in the first place - so we look like freaking heros because there aren't piles of merchandise lying around.
We have so many receiving errors and PO'S are always cancelling and then it takes forever to get activated. Never enough time to get into claims, lack of training in all areas. Paper work just piles up in both offices. Too many chiefs not enough Indians. New backroom associates have no idea about anything. With inventories just around the corner for all clubs they will start seeing all the errors in these areas. Maybe then they will do something about it. Just like audit team right? (ha,ha!!)
Claim associate and receiving TL are the two backroom associates at our club. Claims got a big ole raise for doing the same job they were already doing and is now the highest paid person in our building, making more than the TL. Both continue to basically do their old jobs. Both knew what the job would be like after the changes . The level of complaining is ridiculous, they are getting highly compensated, they interviewed for the position, do the job.
I love the idea of keeping record! I am going to do that for sure! I'll keep a little binder with what was asked, what was the response, time, date and who the manager was. Let us get a walk and anyone try to get after me. I will be pulling that binder out so fast. Then I'll probably walk out the door never to return. Let them have the mess.
I opted to stay the transition wasnt terrible and yes no management support quick to ask a million questions of how come n what for when they have no idea how to do it... our club wasnt one of the lucky ones to have 3 FTs n found out the part timer hired from outside was brought n making way more money than me... Im half tempted to quit since for all we do im way under paid compared to new hire... Seems so backwards for the company to filter out the long time associates who were pulling 20 n over just to hire outside at 17+
everyone needs to start documenting each time they ask for help with a given issue and then pull out their record book when being blame for the thing they asked for help with........
I'm a troll because aim tired of always seeing negative posts. Nothing ever works, everything is always wrong. Every person in HO is dumb. I cant believe that every post on here is negative. Its amazing that we can even stay open with all the negativity

Our club is also a mess. Managers don't help because they don't know either. They ignore it hoping the problem will go away. By doing that they are making us feel helpless. Like the other comment said, we are drowning. All I can do is keep trying. It's got to come together sooner or later.

Our club is a hot mess as well. No one knows or understands claims. Our audits have been extremely horrible since this change. Numbers all over the place.. all items that are off are items that have been returned at some point since dec 7th but my club still doesn't seem to understand the problem is on our end.. looks like we are losing thousands.. I've been doing this for years and never had this issue!
Typical Sam's club management of today unfortunately. All the clubs are the same. Management does not know how to do anything in the departments, but they don't want to admit it. Instead of admitting it and trying to learn, they put it on us to drown. They look the other way and continue to collect their paychecks. I can't tell you how many times I have been left high and dry by the people who are supposed to teach and train me. Then when things fail it falls on us to take the blame. I have been told so many times that I can't even count, to call other clubs to find out the answers I need to do my job. And I'm told this by the managers that should know the answers. All they know how to do is sit in the office, answer emails, and dictate commands to their associates.
Then this troll on here posts some garbage saying it's the associates who make the place a bad club. I can tell you that I have been in the company for 15 years and I have seen this place turn to trash over time. And it all started at the top. Now, I am no longer the associate I once was. Now it is common to disregard the associates, not help them and let us all drown. This has come from the top, and this has turned the club and it's workers into what it is today. It has chased off so many good people. This store will die. There is no doubt in my mind. Reach out for a raft, and nobody will throw it to you. I am done with Sam's. How long will it take for the rest to see it for what it is now? Good luck to you all.
Everyone at our club continues to work in their own area as before as well as another club I had spoken to over the phone. If everyone does not treat the backroom as a whole I wouldn't be surprised if the ones that left file a law suit due to the positions staying the same and nothing changing, could not blame them if they did.
