Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Bag checks...

So this is just a pet-peeve of mine so I will vent here. So we are required to do bag checks “on camera” or else loss prevention has a stroke. Even if we just rang up a fellow employee and know what’s in their bags. So here it is we ASSUME employees are stealing, YET a shoplifter can walk out of the store with hundreds of dollars in merchandise right in front of our eyes and we can’t do a thing! Just let them leave with the stolen merchandise or your fired if you stop them? How is that loss prevention? And it’s sure nice to know we trust our employees!

just don't buy anything except when you are about to leave. I don't understand why anyon would buy anything or have any bags except when checking out.

Policy doesn't require that you check a bag after checking out and head right out.

At the end of the day if LP does anything about theft with customers its primarily after the fact. Making sure an employee doesn't still seems like it is prioritized and that rubs me the wrong way. I didn't take it as a big deal at first because you just get checked.

But over time it is a very unfair, intrusive and downright unbalanced procedure that assumes the worst in the people it hires. When I want to leave I can't. Screw all of the people saying take a minute or few seconds. Nah fam. If I want to leave for lunch I'm at a catch 22. I can't leave because there's no one to check me. Oh well I'll buy an expensive snack in store...Can't because no one is there to cashier.

If you're having one of those days and its time to go home nope. You either wait for someone to finish cashiering OR wait for someone to get off their a-- and check you so you can. That is not right.

First off don’t treat employees like criminals. Secondly have a person at the door checking receipts like they do at places like BJ’s warehouse club. External theft less likely to happen with someone checking receipts and bags before you leave. And third. treat customers no different than you treat employees!

This site is garbage. What, exactly, do you propose to do to thwart external shoplifting that you can’t do? Tackle everyone? Search every customer. You can’t control it folks. You can control internal, hence the need to do bag checks. If it was your store, you would insist they were done.

Does LP come to the store to look at the cameras or do they watch remotely?

Loss prevention looks at the cameras.

So who's looking at the cameras anyway?

Add it to the list with CAR as a way to intimidate team members and weed out the losers and total id--ts. Any one stupid enough to take anything out in a bag, rather than put in their pockets, deserves to be canned.

I second that! We have had to physically just stand there and watch shoplifters walk out of the store with hundreds of dollars in stolen merchandise powerless to do anything about it! We can’t touch them and we can do NOTHING to get the merchandise back or nothing to prevent the merchandise from leaving the store. And yet don’t do a bag check on camera your a criminal! Cvs loss prevention is nothing, when how are we preventing loss in the first place? And no, offering the “customer” help and greeting them does NOT work. We’ve done that and they stole anyway.

External theft is bad at CVS yet corporate continues to just blame employees for everything. And cvs has the worst loss prevention policies. there is NO policies in place to prevent merch from leaving the store.

Why hire people if your going to look at them side-eyed all the time?

Inventory was so bad an investigation was conducted. Prediction was internal... it was not internal. Report showed it to be external.

Results for next inventory will outdo the last especially with 1 employee in FS, "customers" are aware.

To the previous poster... I understand your point, except where is the trust?

You must have not taken the previous LP quiz. Many shoplifters are good people who are presented with an opportunity. If no bag checks are performed, there is an opportunity therefore it increases the risk of internal theft.

Customers always comment wow you have to do that in front of people. Why with for someone who doesn’t trust you!

The problem with LP, and is has been for 30+ years, is that they will show figures that it is the Company Officials, as well as the customers, if in a retail environment, who do most of the theft.

LP has perpetuated this myth for years!
