I thought that stock prices of BK companies generally become worthless. SHLDQ has actually been doing quite well. Does a judge have to declare the stock worthless ?

Nah, it'll go negative meaning everyone holding the stock then has to pay money just for having it! SELL NOW OR GO BANKRUPT YOURSELF!!!
Its called gambling and its a cheap form of gambling....
SHLDQ operates under a DIP; liquidating assets to pay off creditors. The primary focus of the company is paying off debt.
The DIP can be called in at any time. SHLDQ (debtors) requested extensions to continue operating under Chapter 11. They were granted extensions to April 15th and June 15th. (IMO) Unless the DIP is called in do not expect the stock to cease trading until either of these dates pass.
