I can say confidently that after being cut earlier this month from GM (salaried), it may end up being the best thing that ever happened to me. I was in a very stressful role at GM and the future looks so bright right now. I have two job offers already and potentially a third or forth next week.
To those that have been laid off. Hone up on your interviewing skills. Be confident. Be aggressive. Go get a new job. Move on. I'm over it and looking to the future.
The local market is flooded. Recruiters are taking the pick of the litter, and at lower pay. You have to go out of state for best opportunities.

I am honestly so jealous that you were able to have that opportunity. I wish I was laid off to spare others who did not want to be laid off... but sadly I am here until the bonus payout. Best of luck and I hope you have a better job than you did at GM!

One lucky candidate out of many dozen, does not make for a great market. There are a lot of misconceptions and preconceived notions about this market. Poll it unbiasly, and you may quite find the market is nothing like what they've said it was.

Lucky you, all I've had so far were a couple a luke warm interviews where they clearly made the point that they had a lot of other former GM engineers to interview
Which field and which state? I'm hearing the opposite among my former colleagues. Certain markets and fields may be better positioned.
