Harriman Pension, I've had enough!

Toxic environment has me considering other options. I'm only 51, back working agreement job as conductor for two years but have 8 years as a manager and qualify for the pension. Do I lose that if I retire early?

Trying to kill the pension goes back to D--k Davidson. Something tells me Jim and Jack and various others didn’t think it was a good idea. Lance didn’t waste much time killing it.

"If you wait to collect it until age 65 it will be the full amount."

That's not quite true.

Time spent working agreement after non-agreement counts as Vested Service, but not Credited Service unless you go back to non-agreement once again, when it would count as 1/60 times the number of consecutive non-agreement months worked after being agreement.

Essentially, you continue to vest what you have, but you stop accruing any more "pension" while you work an agreement job.

How many years do you need to be vested?

No you don’t automatically lose it. Once you are vested, you are vested. You just can’t collect until age 55 and then it will be a reduced amount because that’s considered early. If you wait to collect it until age 65 it will be the full amount.

However the company can and may offer you a lump sum buyout if you leave the company.
