Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Big cuts coming in March

AIG is not a well run company. There are some very good people working there, but not enough to offset the incompetent senior management, who feather their nests while firing lower level people. Contractors seem to outnumber FTEs, especially in technology. Big cuts coming in March. If you work there, actively look for something else as a hedge, because they are going to be based on targets arbitrarily set, not on poor performers.

Bumped from @VT1whrW-1Qxsx for info.

Next big reduction will be voluntary. I know a couple of recruiters who have heard from many AIG folks who want to leave. Don't worry Captain Kangaroo, plenty of us will be voting with our feet after STI. Then you can ask McKinsey to ti rell you what to do next, because you and Zaffino and Repko are clueless.

My friends who rub elbows with people in high places believe March 7th to 15th is the next RIF. It's set to go and may include more managers this time around.

BD doesn’t give a darn about ANYONE including those who believe in his strategy. Recycled junk at the top that will cash out and not give a cr-p. At least under PH’s regime layoffs were announced and told it was company reorg. Right or wrong he had a plan this guy seems to be throwing darts at the wall and using the same old playbook from the past. My question is why the heck are they paying this guy so much???

Well after reading this post I can defiantly say that after 20 years here nothing is a surprise. To answer the question of RIF dates, it is always March 7th or 8th. Managers already selected the people who are getting RIF. This is part of there own goals. Other CO's in the past have also said basically :if you don't like it, find another job" same meaning as in the last town hall.

AIG has always been the worse work place to allow managers to do what they want and be abusive as much as they want without being checked. CEO bail with millions, so much turn over.

I do not even know how to put the Human Resources group into words, it is just plain despicable how they pick and choose to help some people stay.

To prove my point, watch on the upcoming RIF and some assistant / secretary who is favored by HR. I guarantee if there boss gets rif they will still have a job doing nothing, or helping or supporting someone remotely all because HR arranged it.

Good luck to everyone still at "ALL IS GROSS"

Co will nevet give voluntary packages. They want to pick who goes and they want to discriminate ahainst age and everyone would volunteer. They should sweeten healthcare for those they so callously kick out at 62 or 63 years old.

BD,

You said in the employee town hall that if we don't believe in any of your strategy, we should look for other jobs. Well, I have been here a long time and the way I see it is that I should get paid to leave like the multiple CEO's, COO's and CIO's that have come and gone since 2008. Each leaves with their millions and AIG continues to sink. You will get your $43,000,000 when you dump this place.

If you really want to keep the people that believe in you, offer voluntary rifs. I will leave today if I get a package and so will all of the people who don't believe in you. Otherwise, we just wait which isn't productive for us or AIG. But, too much on the table to walk away now.

I would be surprised if it was as much as 15-20% but I definitely believe cuts are right around the corner...Time to put this place out of its misery..

They don't have to give a warn notice if the RIF's aren't all in one location.

So if the post below is accurate they would have done a warn notice?

March 7th is the day. Be prepared for massive layoffs. 15 to 20 percent lay-off across the board. No one is safe, except BD.

Wow thanks for the info. Too bad the co doesnt bridge the folks that are so close to retirement to 65 ifvcobra falls short by a few mos. but that would be human and honorable. Not in aigs vocabulary. Shame as it would take the sting out of it especially since hard to get a job at 63 or 64.

200 net so what. Co couldve laid off 1000000 people over 40 in the us. And hired 999800 college kids jr analysts and folks overseas not necessarily outsourced and yould come up with headcount down 200 worldwide. So whats your point? It doesnt convey the pain and abuse abd descrimination thats happening.

To Meh - there are lies, damn lies, and then there are statics ! You use the terms “headcount” and “worldwide” gives us how many people have been laidofff and how many of them are in US and go a step further and give us how many are over 48. Please.

For all the talk of massive layoffs at AIG, its total headcount dropped by just 200 people worldwide over the past year.

Meh.

Do you know that layoffs are coming & if so do you have an inside source or inside track or connected with someone or some folks inside of AIG not doubting that job cuts are actually coming but trying to find out more about them does anyone know whether next round of RIF’s will be across the board worldwide will they be hitting US sites say Shared Services K.C. maybe certain lines of business targets any further & pertinent information is certainly welcomed if available TY
