As one of the affected in my late 40s, but looking at a pleasant severance package, I am starting to get less concerned about myself than about those that remain. My skill was quite unique and responsibility will fall to mentees of mine who I fear will struggle.
Whether overall strategy or just execution of this was poor, I am starting to think that those leaving in this round may end up better off than those staying, unfortunately. The combination of loss of talent, customer nervousness about SAP's ability to support them, and even potentially loss of deals because the technical support is not there could make 2019 a very difficult year for those who remain.
Even cost savings from all this will not come till next year, given the number of people with decades of service affected...
