Thread regarding Academy Sports & Outdoors layoffs

Simple fear mongering, no credibility

At this point all the “experts” that claimed there would be mass layoffs have no credibility. They were sure it was Tuesday, then sure it was Wednesday, now sure it’s Thursday.....

It’s obvious that this is a calculated rumor mill with no credible backing. Created out of spite by people previously let go. I feel bad for you guys, but you aren’t hurting Academy with all this fake news, you are just causing unnecessary anxiety to people trying to make a living.

I sure hope they do fire people individually who can’t perform the jobs they were hired to do. You condemn the leadership as if there is another, more reasonable option.

I’d love to know how you would handle it differently.

I’ll wait...

Ken Hicks announced yesterday no layoffs. That doesn’t mean they can’t still fire people individually. It was very odd that no one addressed that MG “resigned” First MG is gone then the sunglass buyer. It would be dumb to think they would stop there. Yes not a mass lay-off like preciously speculated but there will still be changes happening.

Dear Mr. Credible Fancy Pants -- Ummmm, that's how it happened in the round before I left in 2017 too. Everyone thought Tue, then Wed, then I think it actually went down on Thur. Doesn't mean a thing....oh and by the way, if you read the description of this site, it clearly states to "post about rumors you've heard", so how 'bout you stop being judgey or troll silently....mmmmkkkk?

Thanks for the inspiring message that opened this thread Ken. And regardless of your lead point today in the Town Hall about who is expecting to get laid off, you did walk AT LEAST one out this week. Great town hall so far though. The speech from Sam Johnson. All I can say is, about dang time store ops learns what customer service is.

Sounds like ASO is doing layoffs here and there (not a massive one at one time) to avoid negative media. For everyone who has been let go recently, feel free to comment. I would love to get a story together for the Houston Chronicle.

For you, the day Hicks announced layoffs was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Friday.

How do previous employees know about a townhall meeting? Also, there was a comment from someone who said they are an ASO employee and they know it is happening at the end of January. I doubt it is previous employees stirring the pot just for grins. Maybe look at the people this information is getting leaked to and ask them not to disclose information. Bloomberg and many other national outlets have all predicted ASO to go bankrupt. It is not unheard of to suspect layoffs, given ASO history.
