This is what saving the company looks like? I wonder if the liquidators could have worked faster.

Per a CNN article from 10/15:

“As of the filing, about 700 stores remained open and the company employed 68,000 workers. That's down from 1,000 stores with 89,000 employees that it had as recently as February.”

Everyone knew the 68k declared at BK was not going to be the final number, nor was it ever stated that 68k was the go forward number. That 68k included 50-60 stores that were already liquidating, in addition to the stores planned for closure that were announced shortly after the BK. The 80 stores closed 12/28 and the employees at them would only bump the overall numbers up to ~50k or so. Most of the losses have been back end corp associates at HE, regional or district level associates and other non-public facing employees that probably should have been cut years ago.
