Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Overworked to the maximum

I don’t know if that’s the case at other parts of the company but we are practically buried in work. On the other hand, the expectations keep on rising, so the past couple of months have been a nightmare. On top of all that, we get dragged to pointless conferences where we lose valuable time but the manager doesn't expect that to change the timeframe for the work to be done. I don’t even dare to think what would happen if somebody from our time leaves (and many are on the edge) or gets cut. Keeping in mind the company philosophy that they don’t need to hire while the work gets done even if we are understaffed, we would be in for hell. I’ not sure I can take it for much longer.

Just remember Dell will have your job posted before your obituary hits the news paper!

I wish we had work to do in MDC. Everyday feels like a week when you're just sitting around with no meaningful work to do.

If you could and passionate about, do as much as you can, don't be bother on how others are, that will be personally rewarding in longer run, companies will come and go but your skills will be with you as long as you live.

don't take on more work. And be creative, get more done with less but act like you have too much work, managers are stupid they have no idea, just act and tell then what to think. and continue spamming Tell Dell yearly, yes, yearly. on tool improvements (although it is a useless to the max survey that nobody in management read or process). Last but not least, only volunteer if your name will be listed as part of a high visible project or if someone will raise an Inspire point for you. Don't bother with anything else. Lifers be creative.

hear you. About 4 years ago they started a scheme here to make us all take on more work and huge numbers and patches, but get paid less as a result.

A few people fell for it "because of the opportunity" and "be a team player" etc, but the reality was it is all about taking on more work, more risk and a higher number so you get paid less. Reducing cost increasing output. Managers fall for it all the time. I am on less pay now than 8 years ago but learned to not take the next roles until I see the fine print and ask "Why would I take less money to do more work"
