GM could implement this reduction plan over several months rather than all at once

Additionally, they could enhance existing benefits and come out as more compassionate to a long term employees being let go. Use a little sound judgment at the top. It would show goodwill and likely sell more cars/trucks. The advertising would be solid selling point. Use some common sense people.

When MTB took reins of GM in Jan 2014 share price was 40 after 5 yrs it is below that price what kind of pressure she will be under to prop up share price as she is answerable to Board and Stockholders

Yep, the longer they wait the more likely they are to lose their best employees. Just another example of how incompetent GM management is. They need to lay off all the managers from Mary down to the lowest front-line manager. It's the only way to fix the dysfunctional corporate culture.

Everybody in GMIT is sick and tired of waiting. Nobody can be productive as before. They need to do it the sooner the better and do it one time only to keep the good employees or all the talents will walk away from them.

I have jobs lined up already. I need them to give me Severance package and Bonus then I am happy to go. Do it now.

The sudden massive cuts are in part for headlines aimed at big investors -- to juke up the stock price. The big concern up top at GM is that the stock price has been stuck at or below the IPO price. If they extend the layoffs over the year the business press won't be as excited.
