Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Another round today

Record profits. More layoffs in Optum Technology. Teams were already understaffed, letting more good people go. What a joke.

Please don’t spam this post with more WARN act b---s--- either, we got the message in EVERY OTHER POST.

It's sad to see. I too am a top performer. All 4's and 5's through my career.

This is James Franke cleaning house. It appears he wants to take the company back 15 years and outsource IT. Just the think that was reversed. saved the company tons of money to bring it back in house. Think Franke is a bean counter and everyone knows what happens with them in control.

I received 4s and 5s on my reviews every year and was laid off yesterday. My team has been decimated over the last 2 years by not replacing people who have left or replacing them with OGS staff. My team hired another OGS employee just last week. What a slap in the face! We've lost several people with a lot of experience and now in the last 2 weeks 3 more are gone from the company. They are now down to one guy with any real experience and a bunch of new or lower level techs. I wish my former coworkers the best, but I hope this "plan" blows up in Optum's face. My management chain really has no technical knowledge or experience and is just making decisions based on saving money. When problems arise, and they will, especially after the annual AEP freeze is done, they'll have no one to fix them. Good luck, Optum! You're going to need it!

You hear management complain that IT costs are too high but when I talk to friends that work in other IT shops in other companies nobody has taken the level of security to levels they run at United. No admin rights for any users (including developers), all applications are white listed, ect... Its great they are doing so much to protect customer data but all this security has to be managed and maintained.

it wasn't just 28's and 29's. I was a 30. I repeatedly received overall 4 and 5 in my yearly reviews and oversaw an extremely high performing team. This is strictly about dollars and not performance. Doesn't matter how well you did your job. The new plan is for grade 31's to have upwards of 30 direct reports. They will be eliminating 29's and 30's. I was a part of these planning sessions so I know what is going on. It's a business plan that is doomed to fail. There will be another 1000 people let go the end of February. They are also planning on leveraging OGS and reducing US staff further. They will not pay out bonuses to those laid off nor will they reassign you even if that's what they said. Their largest customer (UHG) is already looking elsewhere for their IT needs due to cost. When UHG exits, Optum will cease to exist. My recommendation to anyone employed there who is a 27-30? Run!

Happened to me today. Grade 28. We were laid off in groups, we didnt even get the benefit of a 1-1 conversation. Is this the timing to avoid paying last years bonus, or will we get those? Timing seems suspicious.

What areas are getting hit?

Teams reduced by half or more. Severence packages based on years of service. Most in my area were 10+ years with the company. Warn act doesn't apply it's not a plant, 30% of the workforce, or above certain threshold in one building. They kept offshore cheap labor and TDP and dumped everyone with actual experience. This was strictly about budget f ups they have made. From a company that posts record profits. Makes sense right?!?

It's odd to me, because I see well over 1,000 job postings for grade 28 and 29 jobs, most of them being telecommute positions. Why would they be actively hiring while actively laying off at the same time? I hope those let go are given priority for some of those posted positions. Unless of course they were let go based on lower performance.

Looks like folks from nearly every division of Optum Tech. I know of at least one grade 30 that was let go, so it's not just grades 28 & 29. Does anyone know if any severance was offered?

Former TDPer here let go, in Enterprise Technology, only 2 years in. Any advice for the WARN Act. Today is the first time I’ve heard about any of this.

What is the reason(s) given for letting nearly 1,000 Optum Technology go?

by
|
Post ID: @XmKxRjR-1iao

865 people let go. Strong grade 28 and 29's. its obvious they want to cheapen the force and protect the 30+'ers

Enterprise Technology

Meanwhile Jobs continue to be added in India

TDPers/former TDPers seemingly left untouched.

Don’t worry, more record profits coming next quarter.
