(Prerequisite: Not part of CVE management or your typical O&G HR flunkie). I have a funny theory about some of you guys (not all of you) with your criticisms and snide comments levelled towards Drew Z and I don't think I am wrong. A good number of you who criticize him are just bitter and angry that he rose to the top of the management food chain without any formal post secondary education. While most of you have your 3-6 letters behind your names, you are not (or never were) c-suite or top tier level management material anywhere and are now toiling in a cubicle. Criticize him on performance not because of your own personal insecurities.

Just checked the stock price again.. yup, your right.. we don’t need leaders with a degree around this place .. not at Cenovus..
Just a hunch but I’m guessing Mrs Z has been writing posts here to try to build up her money generating machine
Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking. Demoting his single mother of three EA so Alpos old EA could take her place is a fine example of his style. Douche bag pure and simple.
Oh please. If you ever sat in his office and heard what he really thought, you wouldn’t call him a good guy, a guy with integrity or anything other than an arrogant prick. All you have to do is watch him at his town halls. They all start off well when he’s scripted - great leadership material - and then he keeps talking and what he really thinks eventually comes out.
He’s a douche and is just good at blowing smoke up peoples asses. He’s a guys guy (likeable, reminds you of the guys you grew up with, right?) but believe me, there’s a snake in there.
DZ and integrity should not be used in the same sentence. Way back him and a buddy set up a rig mat company to get the inside line on rig mats rentals, then wife's company got a lucrative "leadership " training contract. Couldn't be more conflict of interest. Only hard work was lining his pockets with company cash. Taht is why people don't care for him too much, definitely a "me" kind of guy.
I agree with the OP. Haven't known Drew that long, bet every single interaction I have had with him has been very positive! You don't need a degree to be smart or successful. Drew is a blue-collar guy that obviously worked very hard to get where he is today. I don't see any reason whatsoever to doubt his integrity or ability. I certainly don't think any of the major decisions (good or bad) made by Cenovus can be pinned on Drew. The guy has passion and is a career oil and gas guy, I like that! Much better than some accountant or lawyer running the show!
How many women or minorities are on DZs leadership team again?? Oh right, Alex and his diversity at it again.
PS. The cubicles still look like 5hit. Just in a nicer space with views.
In Z’s own words at the last townhall: “I’m a great BS’er”. That’s all you need to know about the guy.
DZ's name should be Slick, that is why people don't like him. He was propelled to the top not because of ability, but because one high-up leader rewarded him for drilling holes or at least that is the perception. He is not the only one who was propelled to the top because he was one of the favorites, some are gone and some are still there.
I think the bigger issue is when people say things and do things but are never held accountable. project appollo was brutal and almost unionized the field. the ConocoPhillips folks were told we would invest hundreds of millions into the DB then we give them 0 dollars for capital and try to sell them off. He developed the me first attitude, if you’re one of his guys you move up. I have nothing against him, seems like a nice guy, but I would like to see him held accountable for his decisions. If he wasn’t on board and pushing the ConocoPhillips purchase it wouldn’t have happened.
