Thread regarding Optum layoffs

I’m still in shock. I wasn’t laid off but my CPM was. And we work on a dedicated account. I have no idea what’s happening, there has been no transition meeting yet to tell us if any of us are being moved around

117 let go this past Tuesday. Next wave of layoffs is in November. Next wave after that is March. Intent is to have most jobs offshore for cost reduction. Some jobs were gone because of creation of web ports and non use of Citrix. the support jobs include Tricare and Medicare. Company wants all the support jobs done by overseas because of cost. In 2020, everyone should choose another insurance carrier that will keep the jobs here in the US. A company that supports American employees should be the one that Americans choose, not a company that has staff overseas and let's go the American employees because of money. They built the web sites which should have given the cost effectiveness they were looking for to hold on to support jobs. They are money hungry and no care for Americans. Please support another insurance company and if enough people switch form UHC to another company, that will create jobs and put most of us back to work in the USA. Thank you for your support and please ask everyone you know to do the same.

When the calls from the top keep emphasizing updating your employee profile and to support your fellow employee, it's only going to get worse. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

Only the beginning. Expect continuing domestic reductions every quarter in 2019, and maybe even into 2020. No regard for performance, just the elimination of headcount. Heard that the support teams (TSC and Delivery Operations) will be almost entirely moved offshore, any domestic operations will be outsourced, initial target at 60%. This is serious, would start getting your life in order, resume updated. Expect no loyalty for long tenure, many let go were high performers with decades at UHG.

It's kind of laughable that UHG/Optum seems to make the "America's Most Admired Companies" list to work for. But treat employees like this because of their own mistakes. You have to have the "soldier of fortune" attitude to work there. Even as an FTE, you really are nothing but a contractor in reality and as such, view time there as that. Bloody Tuesday was crazy. So many good people let go- of all ages and skills. I have no idea what criteria they used.

All of the Product Owners I know and several scrum masters and provisioning got hit. Impacted people seemed to be at or above a certain pay scale regardless of years of experience. Several managers are trying to get people who were let go redeployed elsewhere but while this hasn't been the largest layoff from UHG/Optum it has a lot of people scared and looking at the door. As one person called it, "I'd rather leave on their own terms."

Upper management has done nothing to try and reassure people, adding a weird feeling that on Tuesday they announced the 2018 superheroes.

It's across the board. Around 400 total in Optum. Total around 1000 in UHG.

Delivery Operations

Scrum masters, RTE's, product owners, managers, citrix. Sure there are other areas got hit also.
