Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

not losing the mind and ourselves

Lets talk reality…the layoffs are real, its coming, and so should be our mental preparedness for this. As an employee, i enjoyed the perks and benefits. i worked for this company under their assigned leadership and definitely tried to deliver on my tasks to my capability. corporates reduce headcount all the time and i need to be mentally strong and prepared

if i were to be let go next week, due to whatever reasons chosen, i need support from my fellow coworkers, my leaders and employer that its only a job loss and not a crime or walk of shame. on the flip side, if i survived and had to see any coworker let go, it is painful too

being compassionate about this situation is the best we can do to help us all move on with our lives. easier said than done, but let try to stay calm, friday is here, enjoy some coffee time together or get out for lunch with your coworkers or better yet a drink to toast the good times. lets not lose ourselves, our confidence and what we are capable of and made of. for all we know, this change of weather might do more good than harm in the very near future. good luck to us all

Agree. Seems most of the pessimism is emitted by those in IT and some of my slightly younger coworkers. The level of distaste toward GM and the more seasoned people is troubling. They will carry that with them whether they stay or move on.

One of the best posts here. Far too many slamming people in shameful ways. Even one poster saying those let go that received a company car should walk home. I do not like seeing anyone let go. It will impact others which for most of us is family. I hope those that do remain carry such spirit as the original poster here. Whether I'm still here or not.

I was very happy with my place of work , I enjoyed the projects I had been working on and my colleagues , great people to work with daily. I was at Pontiac and my building was beautiful inside , clean and warm in the winter , this year was just an absolute bummer , no Christmas tree in our lobby , nothing , that was a sad thing to see considering years past we're fun and filled with lots of us sharing potluck , I will miss all of it because I worked in my humble opinion the best team in GM, I was fortunate to have a very good manager too. It's difficult to get over the disappointment to be honest , we had our kids come in alot at Global propulsion Systems , car shows all of it seemed to have a positive balance and a great working vibe , work life balance was excellent , aside from the loss of income it will be very hard to find that work style at another new company and I think that's why alot of us are so disappointed , sure it's business and the economy I understand but non the less just bummed.
