I haven't seen any coverage about Union Pacific layoffs in the national media, has anyone else? GM just announced yesterday that they're laying 4000 white collar workers off. If I understand correctly, UP's intention is to reduce their operating costs by 30% through 2020. Union Pacific employs over 40,000 people. If conservatively, UP lays off 10% of its workforce by 2020 to help attain their 30%, that's 4000 people right there. With all due respect to the GM employees who lost their jobs due to more corporate greed (their CEO is still making her 23 million dollar annual salary) We are the bloodline of the American economy and GM is just another failing domestic car manuafacturer. Is UP getting a free pass because they're doing a little here and there or this there something more nefarious happening?

The only way we get the national media or the President's attention is if we go on strike. We need to pick a day and do it or nothing will change.
Can’t compare the two. 1. Nobody has ever used “I got car industried” as a synonym for getting screwed over. 2. GM is following a trend of getting rid of traditional sedans in favor of SUVs and crossovers, and of course sedan manufacturing plants are going to get shut down; while UP’s state’s goal is only to make rich people richer. 3. Car manufacturers inspire loyalty and it’s a big deal to a lot of people when that framework gets upset; railroads...sure there are foamers all over, but I’d bet most people don’t give a rats a-- about railroad companies.
So, in short, the news ain’t covering it because it won’t help ratings. We’re just gonna have to deal with get railroaded all by ourselves.
The layoffs have grabbed the attention of singer songwriter john cougar mellencamp, theres talk of a protest with him as the leader, guess alot of his small town family worked for the R.R
Yeah this is unacceptable! This place needs some major media attention! Some heat from the White House. Frits has already made jabs towards Trump. Someone needs to get the ball rollin on this nonsense!
The WARN Act is not activated when a covered employer:
closes a temporary facility or completes a temporary project, and the employees working in the facility or temporary project were hired with the clear understanding that their employment would end with the closing of the work facility or the completion of the project; or
closes a facility or operating unit because of a strike or a worker lock-out, and the closing is not intended to evade the purposes of the WARN Act.
If a plant closing or a mass layoff results in fewer than 50 workers losing their jobs at a single employment site;
If 50 to 499 workers lose their jobs and that number is less than 33 percent of the employer's total, active workforce at a single employment site;
If a layoff is for 6 months or less; or
If work hours are not reduced 50 percent in each month of any 6-month period.
Wish they would do what they have to do all at once, so us hard working people can stop stressing and greed layoffs
It wouldn't matter which party is in the White House, this corporate greed would continue uninterrupted.
This may have been mentioned before. Look up WARN act. Wiki link https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worker_Adjustment_and_Retraining_Notification_Act_of_1988
You could always send a tweet to ole big Donald and see if he'll help us out! Or you know we could just actually strike system wide.. what are they gonna do lay us off??
