Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Our old DM quit because of all the traveling that he wd have to do with fewer store! Now er have a New DM

That hates our store and came right out and said he wants it closed!

Such a morale booster to say the least

How much clout does a DM have to go back and request a store to be closed

A lot of the offices were not insulated ; or were built with open ceilings to the next room.

Most Display managers had no clue about basic construction, and most

stores avoided building inspectors . As a result ; The walls had ears.

@ffh, I had the same experience as you on the store level.

The managers office is next to the cash office and even though he closed his door, I could hear him clearly through the wall. He did all kinds of nasty underhanded sh*t. UNethical bordering on criminal. It made me queasy.

I would let the person affected know but not directly say it. Another ASM would do the same but it was awful hearing peoples lives being manipulated. Then I would hear him lying to the employee. Straight up lying.

I left but looking back, not soon enough.

DM’s have zero say. Regionals have zero say. It’s all comes from Real Estate. Rvp can ask to stay open, but it’s just an “ask”.

@owk have you not worked for Sears? I've heard VPs say much much worse granted I think they were only around for like 6 months before being replaced, (with 2 years of pay)

I've literally heard these people talking about schemes to keep underpaid employees from searching out any other jobs. Watched them try to figure out ways to avoid paying performance bonuses, and talk about a plan to fire people who complained to 88Sears. In fact, I've even seen where employees who were applying for internal postings to other positions have their director talk to the hiring dept, and basically tell them not to hire the person because they couldn't lose them. Even later HR backed them up when they did it the official way of not letting the person transfer, but also wouldn't let them train anyone else so they were no longer "essential." Of course they get laid off as soon as they are no longer essential..

Its a 100% about them wanting you to "know your place"

I've had the "privilege" to see it both in the stores and at corporate itself.

Contact the Regional VP anonymously. Our Regional VP would cut him or her off at the knees.

He needs to be reported to the ethics hotline!!

That is not a way to increase morale and I’m surprised the store manager was silent

Wow. The new DM, publicly and in front of the employee’s declared “ I hate this store, I wish it was closed down and everyone loses their job”. Sounds toxic and plausible 🙄

Reminds me of a DM that loved to write everyone up for stupid reasons....He was the most vindictive nasty person I had ever met.....Karma came back to bite him when his job was eliminated when they combined districts.
