Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

The right thing to do would have been to shut Austin down. I know there are some hard workers there but they seemed the exception. This is a club that has no understanding of manufacturing or how to deliver a project. But they kept their jobs and all the experienced workers who weren’t part of an innovation center were let go. Wait until something breaks and shuts down a plant.

Not true. Layoffs are expected to continue through the end of the week with upper management going into the middle of the month. Only some areas have completed their layoffs.

Tomorrow the worst is coming for Austin. Be prepared !!

It is very possible that your group is done but that is no guarantee that all of Austin is completed.

Not sure how one vertical would know the progress of any other vertical when it comes to these layoffs.

Level 5 & 6 are tomorrow...Austin isn't done yet.

Probably varies by director. It's easy. Do an outlook appointment with your director and see when they are fully booked to. Mine is till tomorrow.

My dad got laid off in Austin today. Very sad as we have been loyal to the GM brand. Not only that, but he was constantly working even when he got home and throughout the night. I know he will find something better, but it is a shame that his hard work and dedication to this company did not pay off. They need to take a look at the directors that choose to keep people that don’t do the work and always leave early. Sad that they are the ones that are kept.

Dude. Your never safe....Now your the ones left to bear the burden of knowing your not going today. Polish that resume, stay up on skills, never rest easy. Begin your next job search now. Dont sit and wait for the big corp to dictate the rest of your life.

Most managers were given the all clear when layoffs were complete in each group. If your mgr got an email stating his/her group was clear, then that particular group is clear. I got an all clear after 3 in my group were walked out. My mgr knew nothing until he got the all clear email. (he didn’t even know if he was keeping his job) If your manager hasn’t gotten the all clear email, then you’re not yet in the clear.

That might just be for your org. They haven't gotten to mine yet..

If your Director advised you that the cuts are over for your direct area, than yes, you are most likely safe. But agree with previous that the reductions are slated through Wednesday. Get your Plan B in order as there are no guarantees in this life and this will cycle around again. It is the nature of this beast.

I'm a manager and I know very little, but I know this is not true. Some people are definitely slated for tomorrow.
