I read in an article something to the effect of, "This is nothing like black friday" or when a few years ago, there were mass layoffs, and everyone at the company was fearful for their job. This is wholly untrue, as morale is sc-aping the bottom, and people are just waiting for their turn to go to an "impromptu meeting". I simply cannot imagine a better way to crush the morale of your employees, than to cut people in this fashion. I don't know how it could be better, I only know that it's frightening for a lot of people on the floor.
I only know what IT is like so far, but most of the people who were cut were severe under-performers, or had a job function that was deemed unnecessary. IT was way overstaffed, and had jobs called "Project Manager" that resembled nothing like what you'd expect. "Glorified note-takers" who faced resentment whenever they would say they are overworked. Think of the person who sits at their desk and surfs Facebook all day.
I'm simply not surprised with most of the cuts that I heard of. There was one in particular that struck me as cruel: a person from another state just moved to Michigan to further his career and be closer to "the mothership", or what you'd consider the Warren Tech Center. He was just fired today. He hadn't even been in Michigan 6 months and he now is without a job. He wasn't a bad employee as far as I knew, they just decimated the PM roles.
