Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

This has nothing to do with your knowledge, skill, work ethics, or performance

There is a possibility that this was was said before on this board at some point, but I just wanted to point out this to the affected people. We all take being laid off as a personal failure, and a natural reaction is to question ourselves which leads to stress, anxiety, depression. But the truth is that these layoffs have nothing to do with our personal qualities or performance, and are a part o a wider company policy. Think about it, if you didnćt have value, you would have been cut a long time ago and the company wouldn't need a wave of layoffs to get rid of you. My message for the affected ones is: hang in there, keep your chin up and don't lose faith in finding a new job.

This is all about dollars folks. I have not heard yet but everyone needs to go watch the Alec Baldwin Glengarry Glen Ross speech to get in the right frame of mind and get ready to move on. Toughen up! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4PE2hSqVnk

I'm discovering that some of the senior professionals are being laid off, that I know were the most productive by far. Seems like this may be a way for managers to eliminate competition and play favorites.

If GM kept only the best people it wouldn't have gone bankrupt 10 years ago and Toyota would be terminating thousands of employees this morning.
