Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

WHY TODAY?

I noticed in the paper it said GM wanted to do this before the quarterly earnings were released. I bet they had a really good quarter and it would have looked really bad for them to release all of these people which at the same time reporting big profits.

I doesn’t matter what Q1 earnings are - they just want to be able to say that the cuts are done (or almost done) on the call they do with Wall Street that day

All accounting tricks. They have to provide the illusion that they are doing something worthwhile. At the end of the day, the stock won't go very much higher. Before 2022, you will find GM stock in the single digits, and this all for naught. Oops.
