Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

It was a horrible day in Phoenix!

So many people were cut, it’s ridiculous. People crying in hallways, at the parking lot. Doors closed, many just walking around almost disoriented. Mostly no sound, almost eerie, surreal. We were all watching, nothing we can do – a mini-chaos developing, personal tragedies.

And, it’ll all repeat tomorrow. Such a shame!

I will not buy another GM or suggest it to my family. This is very cold hearted. I have worked at GM as a contract worker and have seen so many people with very little to do and wondered how can they keep this up. But people who do work hard and contribute are getting sent home.

I will never buy another GM car. Or Cruise. Nor will anyone in my extended family.

It was a great day in chandler! If you got fired today rejoice in the fact that you get to move on to better opportunities while you watch this company burn!

Yes. Penny wise, pound foolish. An individual scorned will never forget.

I remember the countless promotions to "try" and peddle GM vehicles to friends and family. Not only do I imagine that to be very difficult now, they're finding opponents/advocates going out of their way to tell everyone NOT to buy their products.

GM market share has always been in a state of decline for decades, and I'm willing to bet this didn't help that issue.

I am pretty disappointed with GM that they have decided to shut down so many plants and let go so many of their dedicated employees. If it wasn't for the employees, they wouldn't have their company. I know in corporate America you are just a number and it's all about greed and who can make the biggest buck but in the lives of the little guy, it's their families and their livelihood you are taking away. They don't seem to care what this is doing to these communities and families. I use to love GM and the vehicles they made but now I don't think I will ever support them ever again. Call it restructuring and looking toward the companies future, I call it the death of the company because they will loose more in the long run because they will loose all the people who have been faithful to them for generations.

Same in North Austin Building. Hope to get it over with ASAP. Mary, if you're reading this, for respect to your employees, do not make us wait any longer as we already have. Deliver the news to us as soon as possible so we can go on with our lives.

We bailed GM out now they are showing their appreciation by firing thousands of employees. I hope you all will join me in boycotting GM products. We should have let them go out of business. Ford and Chrysler just ran their businesses better and that's where my loyalty will be from now on. They should have made the new cars they plan to build in these plants they intended to shut down not in other countries. I'd bet GM has no idea how this will affect their business model. Instead of saving money they will be losing money as the loyalty to there products will tank.

When it's all said and done, people will notice a disproportionate number of layoffs in Warren, Phoenix, and Roswell compared to Austin. rMott is in Austin.

Did it happen in the morning or later in the day, before closing hours?
