Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

HR has been contacting managers with names of who is being chosen and not giving a chance to dispute?

I heard a rumor that managers are not allowed to give any input in the rescissions and are told minutes before the employee is let go. Can anyone else confirm?

I got let go and had butted heads a little with my manager. I told him before the holidays that he set me up for failure and was making me expendable. Guess I was right. Another guy that I indirectly worked with, that got let go, went to HR last year after a bad CAP review, which he didn't deserve. He was never treated right after that and he's gone.

RE: "Almost all of the people I heard that were let go were low performers and on the PIP." - FALSE. I know in some area's where this was true, but in mine it definitely was not. Frankly I am not the best person on my team & very high on the "bar chart" for my salary level.. wasn't let go.. the whole thing is very confusing.

For the most part, if you were let go it was because your direct manager (8th level) gave up your name. Each manager was asked for people names. Depending on each department some managers were asked for two to five names of people they could part with.

Then HR took those names and made decisions.

Yes, all managers kept their favorites.

Those people were never even considered.

This wasn't as random as they make it sound. This was the optimum opportunity to get rid of those employees that were despised by their own managers and/or sacrificial lambs to save their favorites and own skin.

Sad all the way around.

I really feel managers had no input and thought they were on the block too

Managers stacked them according to their criteria, but once HR and legal gets involved, that’s toast. I believe high performers being kicked to the curb can be explained not by race, gender or age, but where they are on the cost bar-chart. High performers may be earning more. I know this sounds crazy but I’ve always wanted NOT to be on the higher side of that chart. I think some younger, high performers are kicked to the curb (perhaps the higher paid in their grouping) to offset the appearance of middle and older aged people being targeted.

I've seen it both ways. Some managers were asked for names and chose to keep favorites over high performers

My manager was an a$$ h)/+ . Bet he only gave my name to the director, surprisingly no one else from my org has been let go so far I believe. Also my boss is all about favoritism.. he also kept a few of the low performers who don't show up to work just coz they say yes to everything he does.

People who have no value remain on our team. I’m disgusted at how this happened. People who were walked out were humiliated. And worst of all, there were actual managers running back-and-forth updating their team on who was let go. Not professional at all. They expect these type of managers to be role models. People who were let go are better off. Good luck to you all.

I was let go today. Worked in MPG as test engineer. I had 1-1 with my EGM and we even discussed CAP goals for 2019 this morning

I was walked out around 3pm. I said goodbye to my colleagues and my EGM - he looked shocked when I came by.

In my group, managers were given the names of the employees the morning of the separations.

Managers (8th Level) had year end performance as usual but no input to who is being let go. This is all based on budget and supposedly performance with decisions at Director level. Sound like age, (probably gender / race) and budget primarily with some emphasis on IT.

I wouldn’t be surprised. I believe managers gave input to the directors last month for the ‘lists’. After that, it was / is out of their hands.

My manager has given me few names that he think they are safe, and two(lv7) of those were let go over other low performers(lv6). So either my manager lied to me or he really had no input.
