How can you possibly think this could not be worse than other GM layoffs? This is all done during the announcement of record earnings. Throw in that this was a 3 month process that extended over the holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! Or how about what seems like a haphazard process of determining who stays and goes? Everyone shaking their heads. Or the drunken sailor hiring practices over the last few years!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or the security and HR staffs lurking around every corner waiting to march you away. Or the cloak of secrecy behind how the whole process shook out. I was (retired) an 8th level manager and was not asked once about recommendations for my staff. I was around in 2009 and this is 10 times worse!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just thankful I did not have to witness this incredible debacle. I'm not saying cuts aren't necessary. But you put all these pieces together and there has to be a lot more to the story. Stinks!!!!!!!!!!

OP, were you here during a consolidation that was done in the late 90’s, or better yet, during the bankruptcy? Because both of those mass layoffs/terminations were handled much more poorly than this!

Yes I was there.

There is no easy, good, painless way to lay people off.

Funny you mention Roger Smith, didn't someone named Lloyd Reuss work for him? Asking for a friend.

Are you kidding me? I don’t think she feels disgraced. She is probably satisfied that this is close to being done and the board is now happy and they move on to sustain themselves and become more profitable. You and others may not think so but that is the reason this is being done, so GM survives.

Not since Roger Smith has GM been under such inept managment. Great profitable products and the talented people who design, engineer, manufacture and market those products are the keys to success. And GM is gravely mistaken by letting this talent and company focus go. It will be sad to see GM go under if it continues down the new electrification and autonomous path with no hope of a future ballot from US or Canada.

She's like Ruth Bader Ginsburg...you'll have to pry it from her dead hands before she leaves.

Yeah, that'll happen. Best to forget about her and focus on your well-being, family, and next steps.
