Right before the layoffs some people were pretty savage on Yammer about the way the company was handling the layoff situation... I mean people making MEMEs on company time... Did they keep their jobs? I did not post MEMEs on there (I like some of them though), I lost my job

it's hard to respect an employer (or easy to disrespect) that doesn't respect it's employees.
The various yammers are invaluable for knowledge share and keeping people informed of various efforts- countless hours saved by being able to post "hey I'm running into x issue, anyone else deal with this?" and get a response in minutes.
Some of the chatter is what it is. No harm in people having some fun on the job. No workplace is productive 100% of the time- letting people enjoy themselves a bit causes them to be more productive overall.
The important question is this - did the Paper Towel Vigilante get cut?
Sharing memes about your employer at work: Living proof that you can be simultaneously clever and stupid.
The yammer people are the most insufferable group of employees I’ve ever worked with. It’s even hard for me to even conceptulize a person that stupid.
Some of the meme-folk were pretty funny. As tempting as it is to jump in on the fun, I’ll never forget some advice I was given early in my career at GM... never say anything that could adversely affect your paycheck.
To make a funny and post it anonymously at the coffee station is one thing. Posting it on the company’s internal “bulletin board” with your name plastered all over it for all to see is, frankly, corporate Darwinism in action.
I feel I missed out on the Yammer memes (never really had the time). In any case I was let go as well, but the "hardworking" folks on my team left behind, will be posting memes soon too, as they are rather clueless on whats going to be falling their lap now.
It can be distracting because the comments are interesting AND it presents unflattering truths
I was impressed that GM even had Yammer.
It’ seems to be used much more for commentary (why don’t make x) and candid thoughts (my uncle can’t drive now, but he has to pay lease), that interest people, rather than problems (my Vis has a glitch) that the company want us collaborating to correct.
It can be a time waster as it sometimes tells unflattering truths
Perhaps it was part of the plan to identify people with too much time on their hands, for this moment in time.
These layoff really did a number on the yammer people. They definitely need to be humbled.
Still going
ETA *yesterday and today.
Yammer was pretty dead yesterday and Day (Dank meme)
It probably won’t ever be the same in there :(
my black monday was today. i'll miss the dank memes the most.
Anyone dumb enough to bite the hand that feeds them deserves to be let go!
Yammer Meme makers definitely took some casualties.
I think a couple of them did. I was surprised by how frank the memes were too...especially once the layoffs started rolling. There was one contractor on there who put up the most vicious memes, and wa let go during the contractor round.
