Ford is cutting even more than GM but the majority of the cuts are outside of the US. Honestly I never seen a car manufacturer that makes reductions in the place where they originate prior to other places. All the major automotive companies in the world could take all of their production outside the places they originated from and to the cheapest location, but why don’t they do that, tradition and legacy. GM is the only company that cut the workers in its core, prior to any other place in the world.

Ford is set to cut as much as Gm.... auto goes down so will real estate... if you are young engineers don’t accept auto jobs... go elsewhere
Ford has been told that a lot of cuts will be in Europe. GM sold their European units and did not have this option. Although I think Ford will have significant cuts in North America (Anything that is not design or mobility is at risk in my opinion), Ford has more heads available to cut by having not touched Europe for a long time.
Also I think design folks will be spared more at Ford than at GM because Ford's CEO ran a furniture company where design ruled, and he is a lover of design.
Ford has told their salary employees that the majority of the cuts will be overseas. This was told To them to keep them happily working. I think the cuts in the US will be brutal. Don’t ever trust what they say.
