Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Job restructuring likely coming soon

I would just be prepared to see widespread restructuring of roles in the first few months as they bring in the new leadership hierarchy. This was not uncommon prior to bankruptcy. We saw Hoffman do it as a method to thin the workforce in underperforming business units - or even in strong units like home services. Roles were combined and some employees had to re-apply for their same jobs along with taking on additional responsibilities with the same or lower pay. This is one way the new leadership will control the optics and message internally by saying "we're not laying anyone off, we're just restructuring roles". Eddie's "transformation" was born from this. Those who don't qualify for the new roles (i.e. requiring specific degrees or experience) will be offered alternate roles that drastically reduces their pay or forces relocation without assistance. Those who don't take the offered roles will have to resign, thereby not creating layoffs.

They want to get rid of the high paying salaries of people who been there a long time.

If this is necessary to move the company forward then why was it not done 10 years ago? instead destroying a company name and chasing away most of it's customers . yes it would have been painful for some but a blessing for others no matter what is done now your still dealing with the stigma of the sears name.

I love the way everyone freaks out anytime a change of some sort is either announced or implemented. Not only is Sears stuck in the past, but so are its associates.

Get out of your comfort zone. Either adapt or move on. It’s very simple

Sad but true.

The new roles won't necessarily be offered to the current employees. Like when they replaced Hoffman IT personnel with Indians. They took an old position, gave it a new name, which was filled by an Indian. Then the old position was eliminated along with the Hoffmann associate.
