Of course there are "meltdowns." This isn't a pleasant time for anyone. Some of the kinder GM people offered their support there, I see.
Ford isn't building cars anymore correct ?
Ford is laying off 25% of its workforce after profits were down 52% in 2018. GM's profits slipped only 8.3% but 15% were laid off. Do the math. That layoffs are "worse" at Ford does not make me feel better about layoffs at GM, especially since the most recent layoffs are likely not the last.
Ford restructuring will be “more extensive” than GM’s - will involve laying off tens of thousands of employees globally. Hackett is under pressure to increase profits, and has told the workers that the end game will be doubling company profits (y/o/y). The only way he gets there is through job cuts and he'll probably have to cut well over 25% of the total salaried headcount. Once he's done our layoff will look and feel like a college party, light, fun and airy...
