Amazon - GM are going to merge !?

Who will take over who , will it be a hostile take over or fire sale or perhaps a clean merger? Stay tuned folks and hang on tight. Dum dum dum.

What would Amazon see in buying GM? (or any other auto company for that matter)

Cyclical business with small margins and lots of competition.

In my lifetime I've seen Jaguar acquired by Indians, Volvo by the Chinese, RCA by god knows who, Chrysler by friggin' Fiat. Sure, why not GM by Huawei. There's no pride left.

GM with AMAZON? I hope never. GM processes are outrageously ones of the poorest I have seen in my 41 years of career. And when inside GM, people do not seem to realize them and work with those, like if it is normal to ask to go to the bathroom when in need. It is suffocating.

GM has been giving itself the harakiri of disappearance for a while now. Amazon should take GM assets if they found any values to it, but never, no never the processes. There are other manufacturers out there that do a better and have more streamlined processes in the industry. Agility is a word that disappeared a long time ago at GM, never to be resurrected.

I tend to agree that a Tesla/Amazon merge seems to make more sense.

P.S. You can order a car online and have it delivered to your home , Carvana for example. All of the documents can be signed online( E-documents ) eliminate the person to person and dealership nightmare with the exception of service and technicians , if you think about it no sales dealership is needed anymore , I feel used car sales people will be all that remains however there will always be a need for mechanics and service departments , laws can change and I see this as a real possibility.

Amazon is allegic to unions, so that ain't happening, until they can be replaced with automation at least. Tesla would make much more sense.

Thank you for your thoughts , I agree with all of you. I see GM starting from scratch at some point in time and perhaps that time is now , possibly as we speak a blueprint is being worked out , that is the reason for so many deep layoffs , GM needs to make themselves more attractive as a company ,infact maybe a name change is on the horizon , who knows and only time will tell but one thing is an absolute whatever the case may be GM wants to be first in line no matter the cost , I could be very wrong.

Maybe to bring it the leadership and profitablility it deserves? They would be jumpstarting with over 100 years of mechanical experience, crossing the void into data and EV/AV experimentation.

Why on Earth would a company as well run and leading edge as Amazon want to buy a company as backwards and poorly run as GM?

If I had to guess, the automotive companies are here to learn how to develop cars. With time, the data and technology companies will come in and buyout their knowledge. They're worth so much more than the car companies, and can migrate to the next evolution of vehicle.

I'm sure soon we will all be working for Amazon, Facebook, or Google. The largest automotive sectors will be absorbed.
