Been told by a friend at work that anybody under Rule 70 is at increased risk to be a part of the next layoffs round. Is this true? If it is, how is that not a clear case of age discrimination? Which, if I'm not mistaken, is illegal - just as any other types of discrimination?

Well, I am 63 and have 30 years seniority. Still here.
I didn't meet those requirements and was let go in 2018.
They used a 60 rule -age plus time in- to offer early retirement packages. Those who did not accept it were laid off shortly after the offer ended. So i guess they need to up the game. More than likely they will make the offer again and layoff those who do not accept.
This is not a warm and fuzzy feeling.
Never heard of anything like rule 70 but it does seem like anyone on the higher end of the salary spectrum is at risk
Years with company + age = 70 or more
What is rule 70
