Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

AMA Thread - Let’s Share Some Knowledge

Let’s use this thread to ask anything about the clubs, corporate directions, all things Sam’s Club, and I will do my best to answer everyone’s questions. If I do not know the answer, we can brainstorm ideas here of how we can find the answers. I’ve been with the company for nearly 30 years, have worked in at least 15 different areas, and have been a hourly supervisor previously, as well as a salaried Asst. Manager.

(It's not the vendors problem it's yours to place the date on product. That's just part of your responsabilties direction from HO.}

I understand it’s curent direction from HO, I am only suggesting HO work with vendors to have them do it before they ship to us. It shouldn’t be a difficult ask, vendors is to send pallet skirts for each pallet, now they do not have to. Vendors have been known to put

signage on then pallet that said “November Mandatory Feature” when it was not a whole company feature.

Wally side here: Do not use your Protected PTO for future days off requests. I.e., you have a Dr appt. in June. Just use PTO-Vacation unless you are intending to cover an absence, tardy or leave early. Protected is PTO-Sick/Other or PTO Fam Care. Save this for when you really need it. Use regular PTO for anything else. If you are low on Regular PTO, it will pull from Protected to pay you. I.e., you ask for 8 hrs of regular PTO and only have 6 hrs---it will pull out of protected to give you the other 2 hrs. You do not get 1/2 pt for working over. The talking pts made it seem like it, but it will not even allow management to give a point for staying over.

@overnight severance, I was told they will not be offered anything.

Post ID: @Y6u4jhz-1mca

All I want to know is if overnight associates get a severance package when their club eliminates the night shift. I have heard no because it's just a schedule change...but 4 am is not overnight. I have heard yes also but can't find verification. I know a lot of clubs have already gone to the new schedule so it should be easy enough to answer but no. Who knows for sure?

Shout out to vendors that wrap their pallets well, on good Chep pallets that do not fall over while being shipped to us! The company’s that spend a little more for those cardboard spacers that they attach to the side of their pallets so they don’t lean and get damaged during shipping are HOF vendors. I think it’s a beverage company that does this because one side of their pallets are away from the pallet edge, more should do this. Also, come up with a universal date tag system so expiration dates can be put on pallets by the vendors, not at the clubs. Use the 4 color paper system we currently use in Receiving, and have 3 months on each color paper.

The biggest thing that changed is the points associated with the lates and call offs. The managers will still be checking their departments daily to approve or disapprove time issues. A good change is that now you will be able to check what occurrences you have on the Wire. Before you might not find out you have a leave early or less than 50% of shift worked until you were being performance coached for attendance. One more than one occasion I had to dispute what had been reported, like when it was really slow and they asked for volunteers to leave early. I miss the days when they would schedule full times to 40 hours, but if payroll was over budget that week or if sales were down, they would ask for full times that wanted to volunteer to take a day off without pay. I wouldn’t always volunteer, but sometimes I was having a bad week and a “mental health” day off is just what the doctor ordered.

You don’t get pointed for working over your scheduled end time. It don’t say that, it only points you for clocking at before your scheduled end time.

Everyone getting new handhelds is correct, our understanding is that club pickup will get them first, then clubs will get replacements for the TC70’s.

by
|
Post ID: @Y6u4jhz-gsz

The new handhelds will be for the entire store according to our CM , not just for club pickup.

Also, does anyone know more about block scheduling . How does it work for the Front End - New headcount calls for 30 Part Time and 1 Full time as well as 4 Full Time COS and the Lead . Do the COS and Lead get thrown into either opening or closing ? Or does seniority have an effect ?

If your club layout includes Pods, very good chance they will be going away, and side counters will be expanded to make longer aisles. First Feature mandatory layouts will reduce to 5-7 a year company-wide and the other weeks will be set by clubs/markets to be better focused on what sells well in your hometown club.

Club Pick Up associates will be receiving new handhelds that will be faster and easier to use. Also look for some type of bins or possibly carts like Wal-Mart Grocery Pickup associates use.

{How can one appeal their decision to deny request for time off for drs appointments and or LOA or intermittent leave of absence who does the denying come from a manager at the store or Sedgwick?}

Contact your Market Manager and ask them who you go to next if you are denied the LOA or Intermittent LOA. As of a couple days ago, there was still information about the Intermittent LOA on the Wire, go to the “Me” app and search “Policies”. The Attendance Poicy is also available to anyone who would like to read it on the OneWire site or on your “Me” app, I recommend everyone review it and discuss any questions you may have with your manager or lead.

{My gm SAYS that we’ll get punish with .5 points for not punching out 10 minutes or less after our schedule end time, but the new attendance policy does NOT state that. Is that true,?}

From what I have read and seen, they will not be adding 1/2 point for staying later than 9 minutes at end of shift, but we will be able to look at the system Monday and see what happens when people stay longer. I will update you early next week to see for sure.

Once every year or so, I end up with pneumonia or bronchitis:

For absences of 3 days or more, you will have to file for a temporary leave of absence with Sedgwick. I would ask your manager if once you are approved for the LOA can you use regular PTO time instead of Protected PTO (PPTO) If you get an answer from your manager, please share it here for future reference.

Ask to clock in early by management:

Make sure the manager that is asking you to clock in early goes into system and approves it. Also ask if you can “keep” the extra time or if you have to “cut” the extra time. If you have to cut, ask manager if you should leave early that day or cut on your next shift. If they say to cut next shift, tell them you need your time changed in the system for next shift.

What is Block Scheduling? How does it work? Will block scheduling be used for the front end - cashiers, desk, door. Does it mean part time will only get 25 or less hours a week?

Post ID: @Y6u4jhz-gbo

Ask to clock in early by management, which doesn't happen often, but it does happen, will they be able to dismiss points?

Forced to Zone. How's points work there? (Yes, it happens every night. Personally, I like the extra hours.)

Once every year or so, I end up with pneumonia or bronchitis. I work until fever has my thoughts swimming. And even with antibiotics and prednisone, it usually lays me out for a three or four days. Sometimes I'm in the hospital that long. Anyway, how do you not get fired? I read that in California, Sam's Club workers have 60 PTO hours. Here, I have 4 so far.

TMA will be getting iPads or some form of portable handhelds, to complete work orders and place special order tires. Program test clubs found that there was a substantial time savings, as well as reduced wait times during our one day event specials in TMA.

Fresh Belt Program will be tweaked to include 3 levels of training, and will not be recognized as a belt level. First level is the former White Belt level, and will be obtained by all fresh associated once all CBL’s are completed. The Vine program is still ongoing at this time. The programs long term existence is unknown.

Attendance Bonus Sam’s Share has not ruled out to the Sam’s side of the company. IMO it may start next quarter (May-June-July) when a full 3 months of Attendance Tracking has been established.
