Filing for a green card is a process independent of Oracle. Your lawyer is probably just working through the process checklist, and said process is now at a point where certain docs are needed. He could gather your paperwork for you and submit for filing, only to have Oracle decide to stop. From Oracle's perspective, you are just a line item on a spreadsheet. Paying your lawyer for work performed to-date, is less expensive than paying for you longer term. Yes, the Oracle layoff process is devoid of emotion and personal investment - not just Oracle btw.
Unless you have an employment contract, you are employee at will. No guarantees on anything.
I don't think you are layoff proof.
In a week or so, you'll know, one way or the other.
Who will pay the attorney and why would he mail without hr n manager approval?
mean to say "NOT going hand to hand"
you here, again.
didn't you say yesterday "very smart" about yourself? if this is the case you probably should realize that the Oracle internal process (including RIFs) and immigration process (handled by external law company) is two different things and going hand to hand, seriously.
p.s. hope you won't be affected though
